Quinine fluoresces.  Your tonic water can be totally trippy in blacklight.

In addition to its antimalarial use, quinine is a fever reducer, anti-inflammatory and pain reliever.  So there may be a physical reason behind my mildly improved sense of well-being when I drink tonic ... even though the "dose" is nigh-imperceptible in drinkable quantities.  If I'm sensitive to the chemical, it could be making my body work a bit better.

And while I'm on the topic (although I've told almost everyone I know at this point), 'quinine' is one way to make a seven-letter word using only four cards in the game Quiddler.  Quite a coup, that.
