I forgot to mention that I now have a desktop system with Ubuntu 10.10 on it, so I've found myself getting really obsessed with Linux lately. The improvements, even compared to two years ago when I last worked with Linux regularly, are impressive. The system is a lot more fun to tinker with than Windows, but of course this isn't surprising, since the whole point is that you can tinker with it. As usual when it comes to computers, I am teaching myself, and I think I'm even well on the way to becoming a fairly proficient Linux administrator. I am tempted to start learning C so that I can do more programming with Linux, but, alas, I just don't have the time.
What's interesting, though, is that I have yet to run into any situation where I've absolutely needed to be able to use Windows. Sure, there are a few programs I still like, such as Notepad++, that don't run on Linux, but these are minor exceptions to the rule and I haven't had any issues with simply running whatever Windows programs I want on Wine.
OK, admittedly, running Safari on Wine basically sucks, but since I use Firefox as my regular browser, this hasn't been a major problem. With any luck, maybe Apple will see fit to develop a native Linux version of Safari.
And speaking of Apple, I have gotten the tablet PC bug, but I absolutely refuse to get an iPad. On the off chance that anyone from Google stumbles on this, please hurry up with developing an Android-powered tablet.
