"Man does it ever end?"

Albert Haynesworth of the Washington Redskins is implicated in a sexual assault at a restaurant. His lawyer claims that he is innocent and that his accuser is seeking only fame and money. Oddly enough, that was the same thing he said about Haynesworth's recent road rage incident too. I guess we are all just supposed to believe that this man is completely innocent of any wrongdoing and that for some reason there is a vast conspiracy of people who have just decided to make up allegations against him to get fame and money.

Some people say that Commissioner Roger Goodell's personal conduct policy is too tough. I believe that it isn't tough enough. The sad fact is that we live in a society where star athletes are often babied and coddled all the way through their upbringing because of their athletic talent. No one except a coach ever tells them no or holds them accountable for their behavior or character. These people are then handed millions of dollars when they turn pro, without having ever been taught the values, character, and sense of responsibility that it takes to handle money and live as a functioning member of society.

I hope that one day soon, the players' union will wake up and realize that Commissioner Goodell's policy is the correct one and that continuing to tolerate bad behavior is not only bad for the NFL's business, but does a grave disservice to these young men as well.

While we're at it, someone should apply this principle to the financial industry too.
