It's amazing how addicting writing is. I don't even feel productive anymore unless I'm working on some story or other, now. Way to consume my life, Supernatural :C I don't know what'll happen when I go back to school next month (yay, grad school) and work and raising three girls and....it kinda has me worried, honestly.
ANYWAY, I had finished my
spn_solstice fic awhile ago and I was just opening it up a few days ago to go over it...and half of it is missing. And by "half" I mean random chunks so the remainder is just a series of slightly unconnected scenes. WHAT. I like writing, but I don't necessarily want to have to keep completing the same fic over and over because my computer is old and senile.
I've got to finish it, but...I started sketching out a reimagined end s1 - s2 thing and it's got me obsessing about it (the pictures in my head are glorious, ahahahaha). Everything else (obviously) is languishing on my harddrive until I a) finish this new fic or b) get writer's block and have to flake out. YAY FUN TIEMZ. And by this little line, Sam's face is numb from the fall, waves of tingling shivers running all through him, over and over, fading into the background when Dean's fist crashes down into him., you kinda know it's not gonna be all that happy. But, hey, those are the fics I like writing best, so :D
My other almost-as-much obsession? This beautiful thing called Generation Kill (pertinent info about Gen Kill - it's an HBO miniseries based on a novel written by Evan Wright, who was an embedded reporter with 1st Recon Battalion in Iraq. So these characters are based on real people, just fyi).
I got into it because I was reading some thread about using real life crises in fanfic and how either good or bad it can be, and someone linked to
tevere's
16 Days in September. I was intrigued, and further interested when the person rec'ing it stated that no prior knowledge of Gen Kill was needed to understand or appreciate this fic.
The story was just one of those pieces where you know the subject matter is important, and is researched and KNOWN for itself and not for any fandom-related titillation. It's just really, really astounding and beautiful work. One of those where you wish everything you read was as perfect.
But I've been devouring Gen Kill fic like it's going out of style. I can't stop, you guys. These kind of fics are the reason other fandoms suck me in. I mean,
bexless's
Unholyverse got me reading Gerard/Frank when I'm not usually a big fan of RPF. Same goes for
arsenicjade's
Scenes from a Bus, which got me into Frank/Mikey (and is one of the exceedingly rare few that are well-written and worth your time). Just so absolutely wonderful that it turns your whole world upside down and makes you ache.
So, maybe go read them, because I know these fandoms/bandom might not be everyone's cuppa, but the fic stand apart as something really extraordinary, and you should try 'em out just for that. If you haven't come across them already....then you might get slightly addicted (you know, like me, and we can go through the withdrawals together, when nothing else quite lives up to our expectations. It'll be great!)
Wow, rec'ing. Gotta love it :D
...and see? I used to have a Frank icon, but I took it down because I don't really talk about bandom all that much. Ugh.
