Well, this is a beautiful piece of literature work. For the record, I do not deal well with dark fics because the not so good ones are dark for the sake of being dark and I do not have patience for those, and the good ones are just downright depressing. I think the whole point of sci-fi world is to explore/investigate what-ifs, and at the bottom, it is the humannity of it all that stays with the readers. It is scary what humans can and will do when put to test, and despite the noble things we are capable of, I'd never ever think it is a good idea to put it under any stress test.

So in this world, it is human nature for the mob to run the marked out, it is human nature for the marked to turn against the mob, what prevails? something human in it all. Sam's appearnce is pretty scarce, but his presence is prevailing. My heart aches so whenever Sam and Dean exchanges any dialouge. I kept thinking this is what happens when Dean is really the leader of people looking up to him for directions. He really would let Sam go, out of his arc of protection, however feeble that is. And Sam really would do whatever it takes to save the people, not only the marked, but everybody. I think I died a little inside when I realized that you went with cannon about the special children, that they killed Sam to win the competition; and that Sam died trying to save them. Every Sam and Dean scene is hearbreakingly beautiful and brutal. Man, I don't cry for... I just don't cry, but I tear up every time they have a (non)conversation.

Did I say this is a really beautiful piece of literature? yeah, it is.

I love your comments!

I did really try to avoid darkfic just for the sake of darkfic. I wanted it to have meaning, and be integral to the story. Like you said, we can be noble, and are a lot of the times we are, but what situations would humanity most likely not be? That's what I was interested in for this fic.

Also, ...died a little inside when I realized that you went with cannon about the special children...

I'm so glad you mentioned that - I got excited about those little details, and wanted someone to like that as much as I did.

And, yeah - Sam is relatively absent, physically, in this fic, so I'm glad his prevalence in thought was tangible.

well, yeah, when I got to the part where they terminated a baby, I said to myself there is no way this is going to end anywhere remotely near happy. But Sam did manage to save Andy, and Andy saved the world. I love it that it is Andy who did the saving, the brothers just got him in position, so to speak. And I love it that while Dean is holding the normal people together, Sam is doing his best to hold the marked together. Nice parallel, you do them justice.

The weird thing is though, the line that I keep thinking about is actually what Sam said about him going to college, to Jess, 'I am not running away from anything, that is the problem.' Back when the world should be right and bright, it is already bleak for them.

Tragedy, thy name is Winchester.
