GOF:What's wrong with this picture?

I know not everybody is, but I'm one of the people who are looking forward to the Goblet of Fire movie. It was my favorite Harry Potter book up until HBP came out (and HBP is more of a stand-in favorite for book 7, which is sure to be my favorite comes out). I think the trailer ROX. The music is awesome, the scenes are so cool. I'm looking foward ( Read more... )

Many of these points have already been made but I think they do it for all of the following reasons:

1) The Harry--centrism of the story, which you obviously know full well but just don't underestimate it; it's bound to be hugely magnified in a film that had to leave out so much.

2) The Pretty--That's why the Hermione/Krum, Ron/Fleur, Cedric/Cho, Fred/George, Ron/Padma (but not the Moody, obviously; he's there because of his plot importance and freakishness). And it's probably another reason for the Emma.

3) The Emma--She has a lot of fans and after PoA many of them will have a certain expectation regarding her screen time and role.

4) The Hermione--She resonates so strongly with so many readers, not just female, and sometimes very strongly. While Ron-lovers are accused of identifying with Ron because we must all have huge inferiority complexes, we all know that's true. However, as we've also discussed in ship debates, Hermione is really the wish fulfillment character. Nerdy bookworm turned heroine-of-a-sort.

5) The Girl--They want to play up even more this prominent female character. Again, while we were accused of embracing the more Hollywood cliches, MainBoy/MainGirl is the most Hollywood imo. Even when they don't get together romantically, many movie-goers want/expect to see one main male and one main female. Movie promoters have no problem presenting that in a movie that isn't targeted more to one gender than another.

6) The type of R/Hr--Think about it; what is happening in their most significant one-to-one scene? They are fighting and not likely to look very good. I'm not sure there even ARE many scenes in the movie of the two of them in the same frame looking appealing. Plus, they don't get together yet. At this point, who would they be marketing R/Hr too? I'd say to those of us who will go for sure anyway. For that matter, we really aren't the primary target of the marketing.

Now, where are those doggone Set Reports????

That's what I want to know. I know that they haven't forgotten about them. They were brought up on a TLC Podcast a few weeks ago, and apparently WB has still not given the go-ahead to release them.
