stayed up late last night making lasagne for a bereaved friend who'd mentioned on lj that nobody'd brought food over yet. because, you know, that's not supposed to happen.
i hadn't realized how much of a project lasagne was, actually. even with the simplifying liberties i took with joy's recipe. also i am apparently shockingly bad at laying flat pasta out in rows; maybe next time i'll get a kindergardener to help me. the end result may have resembled casserole more than the tightly-woven bricks of pasta i remember from cafeteria food. but the little bit of leftover meat sauce was ridiculously tasty while still warm anyway; and i seem to have managed to use twice as much ricotta as the recipe called for; so i'm pretty sure it will sustain life.
cooking a complicated dish for the bereaved feels very adult.
