An experienced wingman

Hiiiiiii.... remember me?

Yes, I'm still here. Life's just kept on trooping and this LJ kind of got left behind. However, tonight I really feel like writing, so here I am. The updates... I got accepted into the 4+1 program here at Cal Poly, which means I'll be staying one extra year and getting my Master's as well as my Bachelor's in computer science. I got a job writing software at a research center on campus that currently has a contract with the military, so that's exciting. This will be my first job that will actually be related to my major, so I'm really looking forward to it. Austin and Josh came up for a week long visit a little while ago, and that rocked for the time I could see them. In the personal department, I had my heart broken (surprise) but made myself get over it quickly. That was 10 weeks ago and since it still hurts when I think about her, I just don't and it works out better. I'm a sucker for the ones that'll tear me in two.

More excitingly, my friends' band needed a bass player and so I jumped on that. My roommate Ryan is on guitar, our friend Shea sings, and his roommate Shaun plays drums. Together, we are The Amboy Dukes. Tonight was our second show and things are going swimmingly. Our first show was at a coffee shop and we packed it out. Afterwards the owner said she'd never seen that many people for a musical act at the shop, gave us any drinks on the house, and told us we could come back anytime. Sweet. Tonight we played at a Battle of the Bands that was also a benefit show for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. And... we won! We got about 5 pounds of cookie dough and a little glass trophy. More importantly, we met a bunch of new people and new bands and most of them want to jam with us. So, things are really taking off there. You can see some photos from our first show here:

As a foreword, yes, I know how badly I was sweating.
Give me a break, the lights were stinking hot.

We'll be going on hiatus for the summer, but that will give me time to focus more on singing and playing guitar, which I've been trying to develop more. I don't really have much more to say. I'm 21 now, many of my friends are graduating, and I'm at a strange point in my life. Overall though, I am happy. I am.

..Why does summer always make me lonely?
