I just started watching Torchwood..I like all of them, but I gotta admit I am a Jack/Gwen shipper at this point...However I saw the Jack/Ianto kiss and that was HOT AS HELL!
Which episode are you at? I understand your Jack/Gwen love, there are some really lovely scenes with them, especially in the first few episodes :) My favourite pairing definitely is Jack/Ianto, but I love that in this show I almost can ship everyone with everyone and with OC-s as well. I think they are all too lovely, and I love them all. But Ianto is my favourite. I try to stay away from ship wars. (I really hate even that word) I think Jack has so much love to share that there is a bit for everyone :) I hope you like the show.
I am on episode 8, and yeah Jack and Gwen do have some very cute scenes...you can see that Jack cares about her...I am sure more Ianto/Jack stuff is coming up...I am in a very multishipper mindset :) Read to love it all! :) I am even accepting Gwen/Owen at this point :)
You still have some amazing episodes coming up in S1. 10 and 12 are especially awesome. Multishipper mindset is good, especially for one's blood pressure. :) I'm ridiculously addicted to this show. Even if it's really not perfect, there is just something extra lovely about it.
Yeah, my favorite so far is episode where Tosh can hear thoughts.
You are right, there's certain lack of quality in terms of special effects, stories and even acting sometimes, but there's something that draws you into this show...it's how flawed all the characters are, and how real they are about it.
If you don't mind, I'd like to write to you while I am watching the show, to voice some thoughts or discuss.
OK, I just watched 8 and it was a very good episode too. I think they are getting better and better. They do well with stories that don't require much special effects but still have a supernatural element to it
( ... )
Yes, they are getting better and better. They kind of find their voice. But there are always weaker and stronger episodes, but that's usually true to every show. Those that require special effects are usually lacking a bit -at least in the special effects department-, probably they didn't have much of money to work with:) They are not too big on continuity either, but..it is what it is

"It says about them a lot. In my view he clearly wants her, but tries to keep her the way she is, sort of in an innocent state, keeping her humanity and let her have a sort of normal life, -which also a great deal of the appeal of her for him I think"
You worded it so well, this absolutely is the reason they're appealing.
"It's Ianto offering comfort and distraction in the form of kinky stopwatch sex, when sees Jack being so vulnerable and sad :) "
Ok, so is that sarcasm or by episode 9 are they actually doing it? :)))
p.s. yeah I did get your pm...I thought this way would be better, if you don't mind us filling up your journal. :)
Oh and yeah...I love tall dark and brooding also...I love Dr. Who...i am a Who/Rose shipper :) I remember Jack on Dr. Who, but I can't really remember the circumstances of how he became that way.... what's the exact episode that it happens in?
The exact episode is the finale of doctor Who S1. That's when it happens.
Me too... Hmmm...Angel. He's really great example of the tall, dark and brooding :) I was so crushing on him. Angel was the first show I became completely addicted with, although I was not part of the fandom back then. But I don't mind I missed out on the fandomwank, as I saw there were lots. But that's the case in every fandom, one has to learn to ignore the bad and just enjoy the things one loves about the show.

Yeah, I got into Whedonverse much later and I am also glad I didn't have to participate in shipper wars (which I am sure there were many with Buffy vs Spike). I am a multishipper now (I re watched Buffy recently)..and I love both of those relationships and I don't think any of them are mutually exclusive. On his show Angel got so much better, so much more intense. In some aspects I actually liked Angel's show better, especially seasons 1,2 :)
Sometimes it almost seems like if you don't get invloved in the fandom you'll enjoy the shows better.. :)
I also loved Angel better. I got into it after Angel S5 was already finished, and I started with Angel, so I actually saw first his relationship with Cordelia, which I adored. And later I went back to see the Buffy episodes, and I loved those as well, and kind of shipped Angel with both of them. I really am glad I was not in the fandom, because I know there were a lot of hate there. Somehow in fandoms a lot of people get bitter and hurt when they don't get exactly how they imagine things should go, even little things get exaggerated, and the added amount of complaints can spoil your enjoyment, and change a bit your own views as well. It's a fine line you have to walk to get only the enjoyment, and being able to avoid or ignore the wank. Although sometimes good to read other people vents as well.
Oh, I wanted to show you this beautiful fanart with Angel and Jack. credit goes to by tavven
I love episode 12! hehe :) The Jack/Jack teary goodness...To tell you the truth I've never been a slash shipper before and I am not convinced I am now...I actually winced and felt shy throughout their whole looong courtship...but man those guys can do the sad "should I should I not" looks :)) That whole episode is intense with Ianto shooting Owen and I guess he is already WITH Jack because of Owen's remark.
I now want to rewatch Doctor Who and see how it all started :)

No sarcasm there. No. LOL :) It seems they at least have casual sex by then. How casual it is, or what more it is, is question of interpretation :)
ps: It's perfect :)
