Maxwell Wesley Bliss
June 23rd at 1am my water broke. I am 34 1/2 weeks. Most babies do fine at this age even though I am 5 weeks early. The last thing to finish developing is the lungs.
Saint Mary's has been taking really good care of me. They explain everything and give us choices. I am still not in active labor. We have chosen to wait and see what happens. The risk is that an infection will set in and potentially hurt the baby. The plus is that every minute I hold off Max's lungs will be further developed. You all know how much I love sitting still so this was a tough choice for me.
Max and I are constantly being monitored and are doing really well. They have me on antibiotics to lessen the risk of infection. They will let this continue for another day or two assuming we are doing well. Then if I haven't naturally started active labor they will induce.
I will be in the hospital for awhile. How long is hard to say. Max will most likely have to spend some time in ICU. Possibly a few days or even a few weeks.
Greg is making sure I have everything I could possibly need. Most importantly he keeps me laughing. I couldn't ask for a better partner.
