Happy 6th Wedding Annivarsary

Mar 08, 2009 16:17

The past 8 1/2 years spent with Karen have been at the top of my list as not only the best years of my 38 years of life, but my favorite years as well.
In spite of the fact that I have had to deal with the ever challenging aspects of bipolar disorder, and increasing discontentment with my job, I have to say that the years have been blessed because of being able to have Karen by my side. She is my solid rock, my anchor, and my lighthouse in the stormy days in life.

On top of all of that, Karen has blessed me with two beautiful children. Children who bring a sense of maddness and ultimate joy to my life all at the same time. Because of Karen, my life is filled with love.

Since our anniversary today falls on a Sunday, Karen and I went out to celebrate yesterday evening. Karen's mom come over to watch the kids while we went to dinner and hit the town. We started off with steak dinners at Texas Road House. Karen's favorite. In spite of the large crowd of people waiting to get in, we actually did not have to wait all that long, and spent the time standing outside in the beautifully warm weather talking to one another. Talking without having to stop to holler at one of the kids to either do something, or to not do something. It was nice. Oddly enough, the weather was almost identical to the weather that we had 6 years ago on our wedding day. It was quite warm and sunny, with just a slight breeze.
...........................
I remember on our wedding day, how in spite of the fact that the week before had seen snow and ice storms (in fact the previous three weeks had seen some form of wintery mix), the day was warm and sunny. It was warm enough that standing out in the sun, while wearing our tux coats, was almost too warm to take without breaking into a sweat. After the ceremony, we all got into a chartered bus and headed downtown to Keiner Plaza in St. Louis. The photographer was able to get a lot of really great shots of the city landscape and the top of the arch in the background. While there, the wind really started to pick up, but the weather held out until after we were finished with the photos. A couple of hours later, when we arrived to the reception hall, the weather had dropped 15 degrees and was starting to get cold and windy. God had given not only his blessing on our union, but a gift of sunshine for us to enjoy for the day.
...........................
After leaving Texas Road House, we went to the Legion Hall to see cousin courtney for a little while. She was working last night, and we figured we'd have a few drinks and talk a bit. We had thought about going to a movie, but there really isn't anything out right now that we would both really want to see, and it would keep us out later than we would want to be out.
After the Legion Hall, we actually just drove around, talking and enjoying the evening, and then decided to go shopping for a while. No where special, just to Walmart, but it was nice to slowly walk through the store without chasing two kids around or trying to keep them in the cart. I love my children dearly, but sometimes it is just really nice to be out and about without them for a change. Then it was time to head home.

Other than dinner, we didn't do anything elaborate or overly special, but it was awesome to be just the two of us for awhile. Me and Karen. Best friends. Husband and wife. And then, at the end of the night, back to being Mom and Dad.

anniversary, karen
