No Festival of Lights for us tonight (it's raining)

Dec 09, 2008 13:32

Well, it's half past 1 O'clock in the afternoon and it is raining like crazy outside at the moment. The weather forecast is for the precipitation to continue on into the evening, changing over to light snow sometime after 7 or 8 PM.

Jack is going to be so dissapointed. He was so hyped up and excited about going to Zumwalt Park to walk through the Festival of Lights display. Everytime that I take the road behind our local Walmart on our way home from picking up Delaney from Linda's house, he can see the entrance to the park, and all of the bright strings of lights. He asks every time if we can please drive by it, and several times I have. Then he asks when we can ride through it to see all of the lights, and I've been counting down the weeks and days until he gets to go. Now, because of the weather, we won't be able to.

The other night, I even told him how Santa was making a special trip to the "special light park," as he calls it, to see kids; and that he had brought a bunch of animals with him for a petting zoo. I told him that there might even be a reindeer. (They had one the last time we went two years ago.)

If the rain hasn't let up by the time Karen gets done with her client meetings at around 4 to 4:30 or so, then we are going to take the kids over to the mall to see Santa there at his Santa House. We'll just tell the kids that it was raining too hard at the park, so Santa decided to go to the mall.

I feel really bad, though. And it's got me feeling depressed. I just hate to dissapoint Jack about this, but there's nothing that can be done about it. We can't control the weather. Dini on the other hand, she won't know the difference. Seeing Santa anywhere will just be seeing Santa. She hasn't caught on to the hype about seeing lights at the park. She just loves seeing lights anywhere that we happen to see them.
On another note: .... ... .. .

Too bad that we didn't know that the weather would be causing us to miss the festival of lights at least a week ago. We could have made an appointment at Sears Portrait Studio to have our annual family photo made. There's only three more weeks left in the year, so Karen needs to make arrangements for us to do that soon. I get the feeling that she's dragging feet on it on purpose. She hates having her picture taken, and I think she's really not wanting to make one this year at all. But, it's a tradition, and we have one going back all the way to when Jack was a baby. Someday, the kids will be grown up and they will look back on these family photos and be glad that they have them.

We take a lot of photos with our digital camera, but the family photos show just how much we are all changing year after year. The kids growing up and gettin bigger, and the parents getting just a little bit older. I love looking back on the family photos that I and my brothers had made with our parents; and I wish that we had taken more of them. Back then, Olan Mills was our only avenue of taking the pictures, and it could get expensive... not to mention the unbearable waiting in the photos studio for our turn on the carpet covered bench. LOL. Now days, it is so much faster, and simpler, going to somewhere like Sears. The wait is much shorter (most of the time) and the photography is also digital, so previews can be ready in a matter of minutes. No having to go back a week later to view proofs. A simple order can be placed and a few days later you have your photo package. We need to do it soon so that we have the pictured to give out for Christmas presents.
