Happy Halloween

We could not have asked for a better night for Trick-or-Treating. It was a relatively warm day today, and as a result this evening was not too chilly. Much better than last year.

We all went over to Matt and Trina's house again this year. Thier neighborhood just can't be beat for ease of walking, number of houses that participate, not to mention the number of houses that really go all out in decorating and making the evening's spirit a lot of fun for all of the kids.

Jack put on his Scarecrow costume (which I am still proudly amazed that he picked out for himself. He was the most original costume at his preschool yesterday.) and I dressed Delaney up in her kitty cat velvet dress and sweatpants to keep her legs warm. Adorable does not even begin to cover it, so here are pictures to prove it:

While Delaney rode in the wagon, Jack did all of his own walking this year; at least up until about the last half of a block on the way back to Matt and Trina's house. He was such a big guy, carrying his plastic Sponge Bob Sqare Pants bag up to each house. He was sure to say "Trick or Treat" and "Thank you" at each house that he visited, and then was eager to run to the next porch with a light on. In no time at all he had enough candy in his bag that it was almost getting too heavy to lug around. the first time that Karen noticed it draggin on the ground, she offered to take some of the candy out in order to lighten the load; but like a pirate in the midst of gold-lust, he would not hear of anyone trying to lighten his booty.

Delaney and Parker ride in the wagon in between houses.

After a well spent evening of gathering candy, eating chilli and hot dogs, and snacking on other delicious delectibles with our friends, we headed for home. One last stop had to be made before calling it a night. We stopped off at karen's grandparent's house (Art and Dot's) so that they could see the kids in their costumes. Whle we were there, we noticed a cool book on the kitchen table about County Court Houses in the state of Missouri. karen does a lot of traveling around the state, for her job, and they began looking up several counties on the map. It was one of those photographic moments when I was glad I had a camera in my hands.

By this time, the kids were exhausted, and ready to head home and ready for bed. By the time that we were pulling into our driveway, both kids were slumped down in their car seats, fast asleep. It had indeed been a Happy Halloween for all.
