Boogie made a leap of advancement today. He actually used his training potty at my mom and dad's house. What was so very exciting, and unusual about that first occurence, was that he did it with no assistance or prompting on the part of any adult.
Sitting at the lunch table, he had noticed my brother, Stephen, get up and go to the bathroom. "Stee go pott-hee?" Jack asked. "Yes. Steve went to go potty," I replied. A few moments later Jack asked to get down from his chair, telling us that he was "done" with eating. We all continued our usual family chatter and conversations; all thinking that Jack would go and resume with playing whatever game he had initiated before lunch.
A few minutes later, Jack emerged into the kitchen with no ahorts or diaper. "I done pott-hee," he declared, with a big smile on his face. "Where's your diaper and shorts? Karen asked. He pointed back down the hall to the bathroom. Karen and my mom went to investigate. When a two year old is involved, you can almost always anticipate some near catastrophic mess when things like this occur.
The next thing I hear is laughter and cheering. Jack comes running into the living room, tally-whacker waving for all to see, and is at the head of a cheering parade (work with me here, it's the visual that counts. lol). He had, in fact, actually gone into the bathroom... pulled off his shorts and removed his diaper... sat down onto the training potty... and properly peed into the potty, even closing the lid when he was finished. Not only had he used the potty, instead of using his diaper or a pull-up, but had done so all of his own accord. That's my boy!
Needless to say, I was a very proud father. Now, if only we can foster that experience into a pattern of behaviour. Yep, that's my boy!
