"Self Care." Man sitting by fire, for
adventdrabbles.
A/N: Unbetaed.
Neville wondered if he should leave the party without saying anything to Percy. He wanted to, but he resisted. His actions wouldn't be very kind to Percy, who had invited Neville to be his buffer if some awkward coworker tried to flirt with him. Percy had made a name for himself at the Ministry after the war and after reconciling with his family. He was actually funny, charming, and all-around a good bloke. Naturally, people at the office had noticed it, too, and now he received all sorts of attention. He arrived at every gala, festivity, celebration, or party with a date so he could easily avoid the people he didn't wish to speak to.
Yet now, Neville couldn't find him.
All Neville wanted to do was go home and do some self-care. Pour a bit of Firewhisky, sit by the fire, and read his book. With a sigh of frustration, Neville decided to head to the loos instead. He figured he'd do another search for Percy after he just gave himself a few minutes to calm down.
When he entered the men's and made his way to an empty stall, he heard a commotion in the stall next to him.
"Hey, you alright there?" Neville asked in a soft, polite voice.
"Um… Yeah. Thanks."
"Percy?"
"Neville?" There was a pause and then a soft "Shite."
"Are you doing okay, mate?"
"Yeah. Yeah… just a bit… occupied." There was a low, extremely faint laugh after that, and Neville knew it wasn't Percy.
"Um. Okay, so I'm going to mind my own business. And then leave the men's in a few minutes. Let me know if you need my help with… if it's… I mean. You're safe, yeah?"
"He's safe." An odd but familiar voice replied.
"Don't!" Percy snapped. "It's fine. I'm sorry, Neville. I…" He sounded like he was struggling.
"It's fine. I didn't hear anything. I don't know anything. I'm just… let's not talk anymore, okay?"
Whoever it was had clearly gotten through the facade of Percy's detached demeanour.
