Neville was pressed against the bar with the stranger trying to kiss him - he wasn't entirely sure how he'd got there but he needed to desperately get out.
"Neville."
His name spoken, so stern nearly gave the stranger pause. Neville himself felt as though he'd been called into the Headmaster's office and was about to be reprimanded.
Charlie stood a few feet away, looking livid.
"Shit…" Neville whispered.
"Who's that? Your boyfriend?" asked the stranger.
"Charlie…" Neville's voice whimpered; there must've been something in his look which made Charlie jump to his side. He pulled Neville away and walked out of the pub.
"Wait…" Neville tried to say, tried to explain what had happened. And how it wasn't his fault and what was Charlie doing there at the pub anyway?
"What?" Charlie snapped and then took a step back from Neville. He was trying to gain composure. "You looked like you needed saving."
"I…I kinda did. But I didn't want you to get the wrong idea."
"The wrong idea?" Charlie scoffed, looking away from Neville. "We're not…anything."
And that stung a bit because even if they weren't anything, yet, there had been some hope. Or so he'd thought.
