The waves crashed against the bridge and Neville shivered as the wind cut through him. He'd been trying to place a warming spell on himself but it wasn't very successful. There were too many Muggles around, too much Muggle technology, and if he were to use all his power to cast the spell, it would certainly be noticed.

He hadn't expected it to rain today so he was also without an umbrella. He'd been told to wait there but truly had not known he'd be waiting for an hour. Although Neville contemplated leaving, Apparating home, dressing warmer and grabbing an umbrella, he had sat there. Obediently.

Feeling like a fool.

He looked up at the sky, it was getting darker and darker; all the people that'd been there were starting to leave. Some gave him a look of pity so he'd simply looked away from them. Was this actually happening?

Could Charlie be this cruel?

His gaze turned to his right and through the grey, he saw a flash of red. It was approaching him, moving faster and faster, getting closer and closer, and Neville couldn't help how his heart began to beat fast as well. He hadn't been abandoned. All his worries were rushing away and he felt a small sense of relief until he realised he was cross. Why was Charlie so late?

"Hi. Shit. So sorry." Charlie panted standing in front of him, eventually kneeling down in front of Neville. "Bugger… of all the days." He tried to catch his breath. "Of all the bloody emergencies."

"Why did you ask me to come here?" Neville asked, looking down at his hands in his lap. He couldn't look at Charlie as he was afraid he'd cry. He just was such a soft man, wasn't he?

Charlie had once said it's what he liked about Neville.

"I'm so sorry, sweetheart…" Charlie took Neville's hands, "Fuck, you're freezing."

"Well, it is a bloody cold and rainy day, Charlie."

Charlie took his hands and kissed them before rubbing them against his skin. His face was unusually warm. Probably because of all that running.

When Charlie let go of Neville's hands, he felt something in his grip. Neville looked down and realised he was holding a ring.

Neville's breath caught. "What… What's this? What are you…?"

"Marry me," Charlie said. He didn't wait for a response and pulled Neville into a kiss. This entry was originally posted at https://digthewriter.dreamwidth.org/848841.html. Thanks for reading
