New Year's was relatively quiet and Charlie wasn't surprised to not have heard from Neville. He didn't think Neville's promises were something he could rely on. Not when the man was so shaken and broken from his past relationships.
Charlie had spent New Year's Eve with his family and then headed back home to Romania to spend some time with his friends who were Muggles.
He was due back at the dragon sanctuary and to get back to work. It wasn't until February when Charlie finally heard from Neville. Over a Floo-call.
"I didn't think you were ever going to contact me," said Charlie.
"I know, I'm sorry. But I hope I'm not too late."
"Too late?" Charlie asked, surprised. "For what? Did you think I was going to find myself a new boyfriend in four weeks?"
"No, of course not. But I mean…why not? It's not like…" Neville hesitated.
"I can already tell you're not the greatest with words when you're nervous so don't worry about it. Just tell me what you want?"
"There's an Animagi Valentine's Day Gala. It's to raise money for some charity or other and I wondered if you'd be my date."
