Scorpius took a deep breath and released it when his father gestured for him to follow. Scorpius went up the steps to his father's study; he waited until Draco closed the door.
"What do you think you're doing?" Father asked with a levelled tone.
"I'm not entirely sure this is of any concern of yours, Father," Scorpius said. His heart was beating fast but he'd managed to keep himself stoic.
"It is my concern when my son is seducing a man who is otherwise in a relationship," Draco said, his eyes narrowing on Scorpius. "You are aware James and Teddy are involved. Are you not?"
Scorpius felt as if the carpet had just been pulled from under him and he'd fallen down on his arse. Yet he was still standing. How did Draco know?
"Your expression leads me to believe you know of James's involvement with Teddy and are also surprised that so do I."
"It's a secret," Scorpius mumbled. Or he'd thought it was.
"Indeed it is, but you and Teddy are close. How could you do this to him? Right in our home, Scorpius."
"How long have you known? About Jamie and Teddy?"
Jamie. Scorpius hadn't meant to blurt that out. His father raised an eyebrow; certainly he'd found it strange as well. "Last year at our wedding anniversary, I found them…being intimate. Harry and I had walked into the room where they were-and then we'd quietly stepped back. We've left it alone; we're waiting for them to inform us of it in their own time. That's why, imagine my surprise when I see you kissing James."
"It's not what you think," Scorpius said. "I'm not seducing Jamie-James away from Teddy. It's…honestly, it's not my place to say. If they haven't been out to you about them, I can't be sure I can be honest about what's happening with my life."
Scorpius was careful to choose his words. However, he knew his father was smart. The smartest man Scorpius knew. He would eventually understand what Scorpius wasn't saying.
"The three of you?" Damn his father for always keeping an even tone and never giving anything away.
"Perhaps this is a conversation best had when all parties are present," replied Scorpius.
His father's eyes narrowed again and then in a moment's notice his expression changed. "I just don't want you to get hurt."
"I won't."
