Hermione had always been expressive. She'd never backed down from a fight, this was something everyone knew about her, so Ginny had expected a fight. She'd just not expected it months later. She'd thought, stupidly, Hermione would come running after her.
Who knows? Ginny couldn't help but think, maybe she figured she'd be fine without you.
Ginny had broke into a million pieces for a while but she'd managed to put her life together. Ron, much to her surprise, had been there for her. And so had Harry and Draco. Who had been there for Hermione?
No, Ginny warned herself. You are not thinking of her as delicate. You are not going to feel bad for her.
Ginny made tea and started to work on a snack, mainly a fruit salad, when Hermione came down fully dressed.
"Harry said you had a good time at the party. Even made a new friend," she said sitting in the chair at the dining room across from Ginny.
Ginny didn't reply immediately. Evidently, Harry was still Hermione's friend first.
"Is that why you're here? To see if I'd brought her home. Fucked her too?"
"I deserve that," Hermione said, holding her head high. "I'm sorry for what happened between us. How I treated you. How I expected you to make all the sacrifices. I know it was very selfish of me. I don't know why…" She paused as if to collect her thoughts. "Everyone challenges me, and I don't back down. I don't know why I thought you'd simply come back. I don't know why I thought I'd be worth it for you."
Ginny wanted to scream. Hermione didn't hurt her on purpose - sure, she could believe that - but to guilt her in such a way now? It was absolutely selfish, and ridiculous, and not like her.
Or maybe it was.
"What did you think was going to happen, Hermione? Were they not going to eventually make you Minister of Magic if you were with a woman? This isn't the Muggle world. And your parents are not homophobic, either."
Ginny said everything she could think of but the words Hermione obviously wanted to hear.
She was worth it.
