LA screenings: reaction, photos etc ...

Nov 24, 2012 13:35

Sasha Stone posted photos from a screening now in progress. I think it's the same one Tom O'Neil is attending. It started at noon: one, two and three.

I'll just update this post and more information comes in.

ETA: Ok I'm back from the store:

So far the reaction out of LA has been good. So no War Horse disaster as yet. Hopefully none ever. There will be some backlash I'm sure but I'm feeling a lot better today.

Jeff Wells on a similar Les MIz Counter-Backlash (his typo, not mine "MIz"). He still hasn't seen Les Mis but he's sure to hate it on the one hand and love it on the other because it's not Lincoln (he hates Lincoln). Fun times ahead.

And I somehow missed posting this:
'Les Misérables' Screening Earns Standing Ovation For Tom Hooper, Anne Hathaway

ETA: I've gone through and sourced and credited the first LJ cut of Twitter. I also added quite a lot because it was less confusing to add it here than to create a new post. There's probably still some repeated posted in here but at least now we know who everyone is.

@AwardsDaily Not sure if you saw my question, but do you have any thoughts on Redmayne? Marius is such a great part for him

@RickySchweitzer he's good but to me the women steal the movie.

He should get nommed at least. RT @TylerH12: @AwardsDaily how was Hugh jackman? Any chance of beating DDL for best actor?
https://twitter.com/AwardsDaily/status/272510946520465408

Sasha Stone @AwardsDaily (Awards Daily)
@thin_white_duke I actually love Russell Crowe. I liked that he did this. But he'll take some crap for it.
https://twitter.com/AwardsDaily/status/272511654347042816

Ian ‏@thin_white_duke
@AwardsDaily Are you not supposed to give personal Les Miz reactions yet? When you are, I'm curious if u liked Crowe, not whether others will
https://twitter.com/thin_white_duke/status/272511224330199041

Sasha Stone ‏@AwardsDaily (Awards Daily)
@thin_white_duke I didn't think he was bad. No one in the film is bad. It's a class act.
https://twitter.com/AwardsDaily/status/272511456044527616

Sasha Stone ‏@AwardsDaily (Awards Daily)
PPl keep asking me if any actor can beat DDL. Too soon to say but my opinion is, no, no one can beat him. It's uniquivocal. So is Anne Hath.
https://twitter.com/AwardsDaily/status/272512092194623489

Sasha Stone ‏@AwardsDaily (Awards Daily)
Hooper did not dumb down Les Miz to make it more palatable - and he dove right in. There's a lot to be said for that, I think.
https://twitter.com/AwardsDaily/status/272508089603870720

Sasha Stone @AwardsDaily (Awards Daily)
Also amazed that every actor in Les Miz was singing live. That had to be one of the hardest films to pull off.
https://twitter.com/AwardsDaily/status/272505187619463168

Sasha Stone @AwardsDaily (Awards Daily)
I am not sure if they did or not. They all sang beautifully. RT @wellshwood: @AwardsDaily re-singing in post not an option?
https://twitter.com/AwardsDaily/status/272507120728027136

Sasha Stone @AwardsDaily (Awards Daily)
PPl keep asking what I thought of Russell Crowe. I agree with Dave Karger that he will divide people. Some will love, some won't.
https://twitter.com/AwardsDaily/status/272507345932795904

Sasha Stone ‏@AwardsDaily (Awards Daily)
Tom Hooper, though, should be commended like Joe Wright for taking a big big risk. Artists should always do that; that's how you grow.

Sasha Stone @AwardsDaily (Awards Daily)
@wellshwood I figure, a theatrical experience embeds it in your soul at some point. So the movie would have you relive all of that.

@kristapley @Robert_M_85 she's just got it all sewn up. But even without TDKR I think she would win for Les Miz.

Sasha Stone ‏@AwardsDaily (Awards Daily)
I didn't feel that TKS was divisive in the least bit. SLP isn't either. They are general audience crowd pleasers/steak eater movies.
https://twitter.com/AwardsDaily/status/272553845551398912

Sasha Stone ‏@AwardsDaily (Awards Daily)
But to me, TKS is more like SLP - a Weinstein broken man makes good than Les Miz, which to me would be more like a Lord of the Rings movie.
https://twitter.com/AwardsDaily/status/272553686436311040

Sasha Stone ‏@AwardsDaily (Awards Daily)
Amending this earlier tweet, pretty sure nothing beats Lincoln that I've seen RT @AwardsDaily: Argo can't beat Lincoln. Les Miz might.
https://twitter.com/AwardsDaily/status/272558445624967170

Sasha Stone ‏@AwardsDaily (Awards Daily)
Because I was anti-TKS everyone is going to assume that anything I say about Les Miz reflects hidden resentments or is set to replay 2010.

Marlow Stern ‏@MarlowNYC (Associate Culture Editor for Newsweek)
@AwardsDaily Ah yeah I was very anti-TKS, too (TSN way more zeitgeisty), but I'm totally gay for Les Mis right now, haha.

Sasha Stone ‏@AwardsDaily (Awards Daily)
@MarlowNYC were you familiar with the play?

@AwardsDaily Mom took me to Broadway when I was 10, then saw in London when I was 20. Not gen big musicals fan. Fav novel of all-time, too.

@AwardsDaily Hmm... not really. I think that would make me more critical of it, having those preconceptions.

Sasha Stone ‏@AwardsDaily (Awards Daily)
You can put anyone in front of TKS and SLP and they will get it if not love it, which is how you define a BP winner. Can't say same for LM
https://twitter.com/AwardsDaily/status/272554007963262976

Jamie ‏@jessied44
@AwardsDaily Unfortunately, you may be right. Loving novel & musical lead to loving the film, but you need to truly understand the story.

@AwardsDaily I think the beauty speaks for itself, but that's me. Lincoln is great & love history. SLP just makes me angry.

Sasha Stone ‏@AwardsDaily (Awards Daily)
@jessied44 you mean Les Mis?

@AwardsDaily Beauty refers to Les Mis. Anger to Silver Linings. Consider it a total fraud for sake of popularity.
