From Rebecca to The Sound of Music
Warning: The cuteness here is a little overwhelming. Proceed with caution ;-)
OK, I'm a little late to this but Wietske van Tongerin and Uwe Kröger ("Ich"("I") and Maxim from the Vienna production of Rebecca *points to icon*) are reuniting in The Sound of Music. They are playing Capt. von Trapp and Maria in a production in Salzburg, Austria.
Apparently this is the first time the show has been done in Salzburg.
"Salzburg, like most of Austria, was unable or unwilling to confront its past for a long time," the director said. "For those who were alive at the time the war was too close, the emotions too raw. They didn't want to talk about it." ...
But in recent years the mood has changed as a new generation has come to terms with its history. Stefan Bammer, the theatre's Vienna-born managing director, said: "We are now several generations from the Second World War. Austria is a modern democratic country and younger people are not tied down by the past. The interest in The Sound of Music is a clear sign of that."
