'Chess' and 'Kristina' news

Man, I've been posting a lot lately!

They just announced today that there will be a CD made of the 'Kristina' concert. This means I will actually be able to hear it, since there was no way I was going to be able to go to the concert in New York. I am really curious to hear how it works with English lyrics and how the score has changed in the last 14 years since the Swedish recording was made.

Herbert Kretzmer, who did the English lyrics to 'Les Mis,' collaborated with Björn to write the adaptation. I don't think I've heard anything of Herbie's since 'Les Mis' (or did he help with 'Martin Guerre' at one point?). I wonder how they will handle all the parts in 'Kristina' that go back and forth between English and Swedish. Songs such as "Tänk att män som han kan finnas" (To Think That Men Like Him Can Exist) will need a totally different framework.

Then, another Benny Andersson-Björn Ulvaeus score is having a concert broadcast sooner than that. The 'Chess' concert will air June 17 on PBS (see the trailer: 'Chess in Concert' trailer -- YouTube )

So good stuff is coming. Although I love 'Mamma Mia' I really prefer Benny and Björn's other shows.
