So, monday was bouldering league, and as the girls have already indicated, the problems were tougher this time than is usual, which made things interesting. Yet again I got the first ten without problem, and in the teens I had mixed luck getting about half of them. The highlight of the evening was getting problem 22. I had worked it for half an hour or so in the early part of the evening with no success. I had actually held the last hold with one hand for more than 40 secs not once but twice without being able to let go of a side-cling with the other hand in order to be able to get both on for the three seconds required. So, towards the end of the night Conan and I went back to it to try again. Alas, no luck on the first two tries, although my beta did help two other people get it. Giving it one last try I was at the crux when my foot slipped and I swung left. By instinct alone my hand grabbed the micro side pull and I realized I was balanced and in a strong position. Without a pause I threw for the last hold, pinched the sloper with one hand and then slowly swung the second to join it, counted to three and dropped to the floor in amazement. The feeling of relief and exultation was intense, the rush that keeps me coming back to climbing again and again. Even two days later I can still the feel the grittiness of the last hold under my hands, the graceful arc of my left hand from the small side cling up, and the exact moment when I realized that I had it, that the problem was mine.
In other news, dentists suck. Well, ok, so my dentist was nice, but two hours in the chair was enough to drive anyone crazy. Suffice to say that I am still in pain, and my mouth feels all funny from the number of teeth that they played with. They didn't even do the root canal, that gets to wait until next time most likely. Oh joy oh bliss. Even still, this is better than not knowing and worrying about how bad my teeth were. Guess this will teach my to listen to my mother and Nicole, should have gone years ago, but at least I finally went. Oh, and thanks to the military, it is all free, gotta love that part.
Not much else is new these days, reading and helping Nicole brainstorm her assignments seem to be the focal points, with of course climbing when I can manage it. Oh, and my cold is almost gone, which is a relief to say the least, the sniffiling was driving me crazy, and Nicole as well from what I gather. She never resorted to throwing the box of Kleenex at me, but it was a close thing at times.
