The first thing he noticed was the warmth. It flowed around him like a blanket, soft weight draped over his chest. Stiffening suddenly his foggy brain cleared enough to realize the warmth he coveted so eagerly was from a body pulled up tight against his back, warm air softly huffing against his shoulder.

Afraid to open his eyes Lex wondered what the hell stupid stunt he'd pulled last night. He vaguely remembered a bar and way too many drinks. Everything else was just a blur. Pain stabbed through his brain as his mind suddenly offered up the images that had catalyzed his headlong flight from the LuthorCorp tower the night before. A soft moan forced its way past his lips before he could stifle it. Lex cursed his own weakness as the arm around him tightened slightly, felt as a sleep blurred voice murmured against his skin.

"Lex…?"

His eyes flew open at the sound, wincing at even the muted light in the room. "C...Clark?"

He felt Clark shift, his fingers finding and twining with his under the covers. His breath was warm against his neck as he spoke. "Hey, welcome back. You really scared me last night, Lex. Please, promise me you won't just disappear like that again. At least not unless you take me with you, okay?"

Confusion swirled through his soul; too much… things were shifting and changing way too quickly for his brain to process it. Shaking his head, trying to clear it was a mistake. Lex felt as his stomach rebelled, a rush of saliva flooding his mouth as nausea rose up to hit him full-force. Clark's movements were a blur around him as he felt himself supported, his stomach emptying in a burning rush of bile and whiskey and little else into the wastebasket that had suddenly appeared next to the bed.

Distantly he heard the creak of the door, a softly spoken, questioning voice that he couldn't focus on. He first felt the touch of cool fingers against his heated brow followed swiftly by the blessed relief of a cold cloth wiping over his face, cleaning away sweat and other things he didn't have in him to think about right now.

Muscles went lax as he felt himself slump against the body holding him up, too tired, too hurt to even be able to care about the pain he distantly heard in the voice whispering into his ear. The comforting darkness rose back up to greet him as he let himself fall. He was safe there, protected there. Nothing and no one could hurt him, reach him there. As the light faded away, Lex thought that maybe it was a place he'd never leave again.
