There's another presidential debate scheduled for Sunday at 8pm Eastern, that most people probably haven't heard of. That's because it wasn't organized by the
Commission on Presidential Debates that organizes the ones you usually see before each election (and which has only ever invited one candidate who was neither a Republican nor a Democrat), but rather by the
Free and Equal Elections Coalition. This one actually invited all six candidates - of course, Obama and McCain won't be anywhere near this debate, since that would force them to acknowledge the existence of other candidates. Three of the other four (Nader, McKinney and Baldwin) are attending - I'm not sure whether
Bob Barr will be there, which is a bit disappointing.
This did get a
mention in the New York Times, interestingly enough, but I haven't heard of it being mentioned in any other major media outlet.
Anyway, if you want to hear some opinions from outside the "official" two-party curtain, tune in Sunday at 8pm Eastern on C-Span or
Restore the Republic Radio. These candidates weren't even allowed in the audience at the debates that have been run so far, never mind on stage where they belong. Each one of them is on the ballot in enough states to (theoretically, of course) win the election, so give them a chance. So many people in this country won't vote for a non-Republocrat candidate because "they'll never win, so it's a wasted vote" - but that's a self-fulfilling prophecy. Don't vote based on who you think will win - vote for the candidate you think will make the best president (yes, even if that's Obama or McCain) - isn't that how this whole thing is supposed to work in the first place?
