pirates! and other stuff.
Regarding fic exchanges: NEVER AGAIN. At least not this year. No time, and I think this thing took out every part of me that enjoys writing. I started hating it after the first thousand words, I think that's a record even for me.
But then reel_johnny does something like this and goddamn it I kind of want to do it. I don't think I will, 'cause that's a VERY BAD IDEA, but it's so tempting dammit! Having a MV in mind already certainly doesn't help. Someone go claim it so I can't! I have other stuff I need to write first, but if I ever feel like I can enjoy writing again, I hope to do something with this concept. It sounds awesome, and the songs/MVs already chosen are a;sgkdlj wonderful, splendid, etc.
So, I'm actually on semi-hatius, though I'm sure no one noticed. :p
But. Pirates! Went and watched Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides a while ago, finally decided to write a few short thoughts down. Wasn't entirely planning on watching it in theaters, but when I decided to, my mom totally called me out on being a fan of the franchise. I hated DMC and AWE was just alright, but CotBP will always be one of my favorite movies ever. And before anyone goes 'girl, you have no taste': I like movies that entertain, yay me.
So...I liked it. Not enough to want to watch it six times in a row and memorize half the lines in the movie, but enough to maybe watch it again when the DVD/Blu-ray comes out.
I read spoilers beforehand, so I knew what happened to the Black Pearl--but I still teared up when I heard Barbossa said it was sunk. Jack's reaction didn't help. THAT SHIP IS MY FAVORITE CHARACTER. I missed it so much throughout the entire movie. Blackbeard's ship (can't remember name, queen revenge something?) looked ordinary except for the breathing fire part, and most of the movie is set on land so there's a lack of ships in general. After that ending, I kind of want a sequal (even though I think there's enough sequals these last few years to last me a lifetime) with just an entire hour of the Black Pearl sailing once more.
The indoor scenes felt dark. It could just be me, but I didn't like much of the fighting choreography in this movie.
The female lead was good, actually. Kind of like what I think the writers wanted Elizabeth to be like, except Elizabeth's transition seemed too sudden, but since we didn't see Angelica's transition from normal law-abiding person to pirate, I can imagine the years in between that made her a better sailor, swordsman, etc. Blackbeard was an okay villian, not very memorable but pleasantly evil enough.
The mermaids were as awesome as I knew they'd be, haha. Loved them, best part of the movie was probably watching their tails swish-swashing in the water. :3
The fight scene at Whitecap Bay (I remembered the name!) is probably the most exciting part for me, too. The only one that has me going omg, what's going to happen? Plus, since we don't get a lot of sea scenes, at least this fight scene was someplace near the sea and the water splashing around was awesome. And the tails, god I love mermaid tails. Always wanted one when I was a kid xD
Gibbs and Barbossa were great, needless to say. Barbossa always felt more like a pirate than Jack to me--or maybe Jack's the better pirate, but Barbossa's the better captain. I still feel awkward because I'll always see him as a main villain (CotBP's still the best, imo), but as a villain he's the best of the four, and as a--non-villain? anti-villain?--he's fun to watch.
I would have loved if there was one short throwaway comment about the Flying Dutchman, but I guess that's asking too much. (I don't need to see him, I just want to know that Will's still around in the very far background of the PotC!verse D:)
Overall, it was enjoyable, but not very memorable. I remember the general plot, but the details disappear after a while and there weren't many catchy dialogues.

It's been a long time since I last updated, and I have so many stuff I want to talk about, but I'm tired. In short (until I actually find the time to rant again): I think I'm turning pedo. SAVE ME.
And lol I almost forgot but wanted to say this: je_otherworlds started posting and it's been awesome! I skimmed through most of the fics cause I don't have the time to sit down and enjoy reading these days, but even reading a few paragraphs it feels like there's a whole lot of cool stuff people came up with. Will definitely need to check back after finals.
