So,
The other night I decided that since we had just moved and all my electronics were in various boxes and not put away I'd just softmod my XBOX into a media center so that I can stream movies/music/etc from the network without having to burn DVD's and stuff since my Xbox has an HDTV pack.
So... everything goes well. I go through the pain in the ass setup of Sofmodding my XBOX into media center. It was actually working quite perfect (FYI a softmod is modding my XBOX without a mod chip). The only problem is that the XBOX hard drive is only 8gigs and damnit I have like 90gigs of XVID encoded movies on one of my HD's I wanted to load on the XBOX to finish watching (including multiple seasons of SCRUBS, The Office, all of the season 1 of DR WHO, etc).
So I start to go through the complicated steps of upgrading your hard drive (which is SUPER easy if you have a mod-chip, but harder if you're tricking your computer into thinking you have one when you dont)... and I hosed my XBOX. I accidently, out of sheer 4am exhaustion, unlocked my HDD for my XBOX (the stock one) and rebooted before remembering "OH CRAP! It needs to be locked to run!". So now my XBOX is DOA.
Luckily I just ordered a mod-chip (which is easier to put this 120gig drive in using, not to mention using various other features) so it will be fixed this coming weekend.
If I get my hands on someones old/unused XBOX maybe I'll softmod it again for fun cause it has some cool features and saves the modchip pricing (you can save games, play DVD's w/o the playback kit, play burnt media, etc)
But in the meantime... enjoy whats left of my XBOX right now (til I put it back together).
Whats in the picture
- XBOX chasis w/ motherboard
- DVD-ROM is on the right
- Hard drive chasis is on top (the real HDD is on my computer desk, so is the spare I'm putting in there)
The rest of the shell is somewhere on the floor in our new house...lol. I swear I can put it back together.
