This was another series I just finished in marathon mode. Like Gurren Lagann, I basically drop it after 1st episode and pick it up again this year.
I'm often using this expression whenever I need to do things I don't like to do. A disgusted face haha! The expression of theirs is priceless.
Soul Eater was not the best series, but their characters threw me off literally. Their characterisation is impressive. Each and individual have their own personality and they expressed it out of their fullest. This is something does not exist in our society for everybody wear a mask everywhere they go. Some characters even go to the extent of "abandoning his mission just for his obsession." I wish I can do that.. instead of being tied down by my obligation and responsibilities when I want to rebel all along.
I absolutely love Black Star the most. His courage, his confidence truly impressed me. I wish to be like him! He is my aspiration. Who cares what others think about me? I'm the one who will surpass god. I will be so out of character if I ever says that. But I got a feeling that someone I met recently had "made" me says that for my own good. It's a confidence booster. Black Star is an idiot who always messes up his mission but when he is serious, he is the strongest in attack. He and his partner, Tsubaki understood one another without needing to say anything. I luv his hair colour which is in contrast to fairy Tail Natsu who had his hair pink of that same colour range.
This is the guy who will abandon his mission for his obsession in symmetry. He is the man. I wanna be like him sometimes, "To hell with the work... I want to do my own thing..." My conscience, obligation and sense of responsibilities apparently contradict his style. I wish to do my own thing but yet I can only do that after I finish my work/study. As a son of shinigami, his powers is already of a certain level, he go to the school like Black Star and Maka, but he doesn't really see himself of higher up by putting on air, not hanging around with the students, waiting for the likes of Black Star and co to wait on him (like Black Star would ever wait on him). After going through a series of battles, I feel that by the time he grew up, he would be able to take over Shibusen (if he is able to) and run it well. He was angry at Black Star for damaging the building but he was in fact rather mature as seen in the scene when he was fixing the building and his form of words used when talking to Tsubaki. His weapons Liz and Patty are cute and funny in their own ways.
If you asked me, I didn't quite bother with the main characters. Their characterisation are most realistic, going through what human are going through, overcoming fear, and growing up. Work hard to achieve what one should deserve. Maka Albarn is what normal human are really like in contrast in the overconfident Black Star and "OCD" Death the Kid. The only thing caught my attention is Soul's headband at the second half of the series. Rarely, you see a guy with a hairband own like a girl. He is cool in his way. Good at piano, coordinator of the trio. I would have expect Maka to have the ability as a weapon too. I believe even she has the ability to utilise her powers as weapons, she would want to continue to use Soul. Other than her ability to overcome fear, and her unique voice, her character didn't really stand out to me even though she made Crona, her enemy at first her friend and made Crona feel accepted. Maybe this formula had been used too many times. The one most stood out had to be Dragonaut where Jin forgave Kazuki after just a punch for doing so many cruel and bad things which one would curse him to death.
Stein, Maka's dad (Spirit), Marie, Sid, Shinigami-sama, not to forget the ever-annoying Excalibur I so wanted to skip his episodes etc.. Interestingly, they always catch us unaware...
... In my opinion, it is a series one can choose to watch if you are free.
