“Masaru-niichan!”
Masaru opened one eye and was met with the grinning face of his younger sister. He groaned and rolled over, facing the other side of the couch. His little sister had just entered school not too long ago, and it seemed that every day she came home with something new to tell him. Something new … and something as equally annoying as what she told him the previous day. And the day before that … and so on and so forth.
Chika pouted, poking his shoulder again.
“Masaru-niichaaaaan!” She squeaked. Masaru rolled onto his back and frowned at her.
“What is it now?” Chika’s grin returned and she held up something in her small hands.
“Look! Isn’t it the coolest?” Masaru sat up, and Chika took the opportunity to climb up on the couch next to him. Masaru gave her an annoyed stare. It was just one of those paper fortune-tellers. He’d seen it all before.
“Yeah, so?” Chika held the paper object in both of her hands, slipping her tiny fingers into the appropriate slots.
“Pick a color! I’ll tell you your fortune!” Masaru bit back another groan and looked at the colors written in messy handwriting on the outside diamonds.
“Red.”
“R .. E .. D. Now a number!”
“Three.”
“One … two … three! One more number!”
“Two.” Chika opened the flap labeled with the number ‘two,’ and read aloud what it said.
“It says Masaru-niichan is a stinkyhead!” Masaru growled.
“Why you--!!” With a giggle, Chika had jumped off of the couch and began running around the house, Masaru giving chase not long after.
“I’m gonna get you, you little brat! And when I do, I’m gonna -“ His voice trailed off as he ran upstairs.
Sayuri listened, and smiled as she prepared dinner.
