“No, I’m not adopted, and my father didn’t die when I was little. My parents didn’t divorce when I was little. My father isn’t forcing me to have a career that I don’t want. My father isn’t in another city most of the time, while I fight with my mother! My parents aren’t so distance that I have to raise myself with my older sister. My older brother didn’t die when I was young. I didn’t almost kill my little sister who was already sickly and I didn’t almost die because I got so sick. I also didn’t move away from the only home I’ve ever known to another country where everyone has a gun. So...I guess I was sheltered as a child and I don’t know anything! I could NEVER understand hardship; I was ONLY A CHOSEN CHILD!” She was screaming; she was fuming. Soon, her anger died down, “So what? I was sheltered; I was picked for a reason, wasn’t I?
“But, what if they are right? What if I don’t understand? Then why was I picked? So I could feel odd with my normal life? Why am I so damn special? I know people with shattered lives like the rest of them. Why? Is it my job to pick up the pieces of those around me? When do I get a chance to break down?”
Inquiring paused. She answered her last question.
“Never...” she said to the mirror, her only witness to her rage and fear. The door to her bedroom opened. In shock, she saw him, who helped her go on and understood her.
“You don’t have to be so strong. You can be yourself. I’m here.” She hugged him tight. “Now, don’t say those things about yourself. You’re the only partner I could ever want.”
