Character's name: Michael Barton Jr.
Background info:
Michael Barton was born and raised in New York City, living in a rather large, expensive house with his movie star father, Michael J. Barton, and house wife mother, Shayla Barton.
Despite how this might sound, Michael didn't turn out to be one of those rich, snobby kids that one might expect. Because of his mother's humble beginnings, Michael himself grew up quite normally and became a really friendly, happy kid. However, he quite often found himself missing his father, who often would go absent for months at a time, but this just brought him closer to his mother.
The distance between father and son grew even more as young Michael grew up, as his father pushed him to get into an acting career as well. Michael, however, wasn't like his father; He much preferred working backstage, working on things like sets and costuming. Being in the spotlight was too embarrassing for Michael, who preferred to stay hidden in the background.
His entire life would finally come to change in elementary school, at the same time the Digimon populated the real world and made their appearances known to many bystanders. Michael himself came face to face with a destructive Gorimon (sp?) during this time, and to his surprise, he gained a Digivice and his digital partner, Betamon. The boy and his Digimon would then defeat Gorimon and start Michael on his path to being a Chosen Child.
Shortly after defeating Gorimon, Michael would face another fear - explaining to his father that he wasn't interested in acting. The young boy was terrified, but in the end, his father was okay with it and their relationship mended - at least a little bit.
There will probably always be a bit of strangeness between Michael and his famous father, though. Not only is his father gone a lot of the time, but since Michael was young, his father has influenced his life. From the time he was young, tabloids liked to hound Michael on and off about his father's movies, and of course, classmates often asked him about the actor and some even tried to befriend him just because of his father. All of this understandably caused a lot of ill feelings towards his father, although he seems to get more and more mature about this as he gets older.
Shortly after becoming a chosen child, while still in elementary school, Michael's world would change quite drastically. During this time, Mimi Tachikawa transferred to his class. Now, such a thing would normally not be a huge event, but not only did she turn out to be a chosen, she also would turn out to be nice - and pretty.
Michael quite quickly developed a crush on Mimi, one that would last for years and years, without any actual change in their relationship. The reason that they managed to make friends so fast, however, was because Michael was the only student in their class that knew any Japanese at all. While his Japanese was limited, his family had stayed in Japan for a summer while his dad was filming a movie there, and the boy had picked up some basic language skills there. As such, Michael became buddies with Mimi and picked up more and more Japanese as a result.
As for meeting the other kids, Michael wouldn't get his chance for a long time - not until a portal unexplainably opened in the Digital World one fateful day. Thankfully for him, he just happened to be with Mimi and the two of them ventured into the Digital World together; Once there, the two stumbled upon the 02 kids, who were being bothered by a rather angry Digitamamon. After paying off their bill, Michael had a chance to meet some of Mimi's Japanese friends and wound up assisting her and the others in removing the dark ring from the temporarily evil Gorimon and Digitamamon.
Despite this, he wouldn't get to meet with anyone again until much later. During this time, Michael and his father bonded when his father volunteered to act like a hero for real and assist in getting the other Chosen to New York. There, he, Mimi, and the other New York Chosen group helped round up the angry Digimon and send them on their way back to the Digital world.

During all of these trials and tribulations, Michael and Betamon grew a very close bond, although it took a while for Michael's mother to accept this (Betamon scared the daylights out of her at first). The human and Digimon became the best of friends and Michael truly cherishes the friendship, feeling Betamon is the only one in the whole world who truly understands him.
The other friendship that changed him a lot was his friendship with Mimi. Crush aside, since Michael spoke Japanese, he found himself going a lot of places with Mimi - including shopping and to karaoke, both places he hadn't frequented until this point in time. This would come to change him quite a bit, as through his time with Mimi, Michael became much more attuned to fashion... And he even came to like karaoke! Despite getting good with fashions, on the other hand, he still isn't really a fan of the shopping part.
Mimi's presence also brought out an even more outgoing side in him, proving to him that there were still good people out there who would like him without knowing about his father. While still a guarded person, his sense of trust has definitely improved thanks to Mimi.
Personality:
Mike is a friendly guy, there's no denying that. He makes acquaintances very easily, although he rarely considers these people friends until he's had a sufficient amount of time to make sure the person is genuine. This guarded-ness isn't something he makes obvious, but because of growing up with people trying to get close to him for his father, he tends not to be the most trusting person at first. That being said, once he determines someone a friend, he's very loyal and caring towards them.
As mentioned before, Michael isn't quite as good at being composed around women. He tries to be normal, but he gets a bit nervous around them, and sometimes comes off as a little shy, although he normally hides it well. That being said, he's also something of a romantic and has no problem pining away for someone and simply admiring them from afar (and writing poetry about them. Or painting pictures... Or sculpting them... I think you get the picture). He's not very aggressive and is generally too scared of ruining friendships to pursue actual romantic relationships.
He's also quite down-to-Earth and humble, considering his background and financial situation. He tries to keep his father's celebrity a secret, when he can, and doesn't like to buy anything too fancy, since he doesn't like to stand out. The one time you really see Michael throwing money around is during things like the recent crisis in Japan and Hurricane Katrina - he tends to donate quite generously to charity.

Over-all, Michael is a kind, loyal individual with his fair share of issues and insecurities. He means well, but often times the way he goes about things hurts people or causes misunderstandings. Despite that, he's a fairly likable guy with his head up in the clouds half of the time.
History since 02:
After 02, Michael continued his high school life with Mimi quite happily; This life eventually coming to include Wallace, and for a while, Hikari. He became friends with all of said Chosens, although slowly their numbers seemed to dwindle down until he became the only one left in New York.
Once it became time, Michael graduated high school with mostly average grades, and went right from there into an art college. To do this, he moved out of his parent's home and into an apartment that his father bought for him as a graduation present. For the first time in his life, Michael was totally alone. He wasn't far from his parents' house, but it was still a big change for him. He makes an effort to go home and see his mother at least once a week, though, and he calls his mom almost every day to check in.
Before his first college semester began, Michael got his first job working in a restaurant, as a waiter. While he didn't actually need the job, he felt that he should at least pay for some of his own things, even if he didn't have to. Through his work, he met a lot of new people and the experience, he will tell you, was helpful for learning about the real world. To this day, he's still working there.
That being said, this is currently his second college semester in art college, where he's studying a variety of art forms, including: Painting, illustrating, animation, and sculpting. He's a bit skeptical about his chances of getting famous, or even getting a high paying job, but he loves what he does and tries his best to live in the moment and not worry so much about the future.
Other hobbies of his include: karaoke ( thanks to Mimi), skiing, surfing, snowboarding, water skiing, poetry (both reading it and writing it), hanging out with friends, and chilling out at home with a good book, Betamon, and his cat, Emily (named after Emily Bronte). As for things like t.v and movies, he's mostly into comedy and rom-coms, although he has a secret love for those detective shows. While he likes action movies, he tends to avoid them because of his father.

Not that it matters too much to Michael. Although he has romantic tendencies, he tends to find one person to focus his affections on, and even then, as mentioned, he tends to hide in the background. He spends most of his free time at home painting and reading, in the company of his loyal Digimon and his cat.
Sadly, free time isn't something he has a ton of anyways. School, work, and homework have a way of keeping the blonde busy most of the week, not to mention that he visits home often, normally on Sundays. This would be the reason that he didn't get an account sooner, although he'd heard whispers about the community from other people before.
Sample post, 1st person:
Michael felt the remote in his hands tremble, threatening to slip from free his grasp as he stared wide-eyed at the television screen.
So much destruction! For a moment he felt like he wasn't even able to breath and he placed his shaky free hand on his flat-screen t.v to try and keep himself from crumpling to his knees. The scenes on the screen, from the earth quake that had just happened to Japan... It seemed unreal and he felt such a mixture of emotions that for a moment he wasn't able to say anything, despite the fact he felt Betamon's eyes on him from back on the couch.
His fear only heightened as the faces of the Japanese chosen floated through his head until one face stood out in his mind. Mimi.... Mimi had gone back to Japan not long ago. Mimi was there. Mimi was somewhere amidst this destruction!
It had been years since he'd felt this much fear and panic and for a split second, he just stared, not sure what to do. His throat seemed too dry to say anything, although he didn't know what to say anyways. As much as he wanted to say something intelligible to Betamon, his brain seemed unable to form any words, all that he was able to think about just then was the destruction on the screen. And Mimi.
Mimi, one of his best friends for years. Mimi, the sweet girl who he'd liked through high school. Mimi, who'd helped him trust people.
"Michael, do you think Mimi and Palmon are okay?"
Suddenly it seemed like everything became crystal clear, as if Betamon's voice had been the slap in the face that he had been waiting for. He turned his head to look over his shoulders, blue eyes searching for the amphibious Digimon that was his partner. The red-eyed Digimon looked back at him with soft eyes, quiet as he waited to see what Michael was going to say, although it was obvious by his frown that he was worried himself.
And then he realized something else - not only was Mimi in Japan, with the other Chosen children, Wallace was there right now, too. This just made it all the worse and he stared at Betamon for a moment before dropping his gaze, a feeling of helplessness washing over him. "I.. Don't know... I sure hope so..."
"What are we going to do, Michael?"
Eyes of cerulean returned their attention to Betamon then and he took a deep breath, trying to get himself composed for the both of them. Panicking like this wasn't going to help anyone. Instead, he reached into the pocket of his jeans with a still trembling hand and fumbled with his cell phone. "The only thing we really can do right now.. I'm going to try and call Mimi."

I really wish I had made this journal sooner, I actually feel bad that it took an earthquake and a tsunami to get me online looking for everyone on Livejournal.... Better late than never, I guess? Is everyone over there okay?! I see that a lot of you have posted journals, but...
What about Mimi? Can anyone tell me that she's okay?! The fact I haven't heard from her has me really worried, so.. I'd appreciate any information you might have for me...
Wallace, I'm relieved to see that you're still in one piece over there. It seems strange that I'm so far away and am unable to help you out at all.. I hope you're keeping an eye on Mimi for me at least.
I've donated some money to the Red Cross already, but really, it feels like I should be able to do more. I'm tempted to fly over, but since I'm in the middle of my school semester, I can't really get away with just up and leaving. I'm in a bit of a dilemma, you might say.
Before I go, Betamon has asked that I say hi to you guys for him. I think he misses everyone. Now that Mimi and Wallace have abandoned me, he hasn't had any Digimon to play with in a while. (That was a joke, in case it wasn't obvious enough... ^^;)
Anyways, please contact me soon! If there's anything I can do, please let me know immediately.
...
By the way, to the Digidestined/Chosen Children/Whatever you call yourselves, that I haven't met, I'm Michael Barton. I'm Mimi's friends from New York. I... Guess I should have said that before hand... Oh well.
Nice to meet you all.
Sample post: 3rd person limited (digimon partner integration):
Hello everyone, this is Betamon, Michael's Digimon.
Michael got me some voice software thingy so that I can talk with you on this journal, since it's too hard for me to type.
I've been watching the t.v a lot lately, watching the news about all of the scary stuff in Japan. Are all of you Digimon doing your best to help the humans? I know if I was there, I would be helping as much as possible, but Michael says we can't just up and fly to Japan. I guess he's right, but I wish I could go and help you guys...
Speaking of which, how many other Digimon get to post on here? I think Michael said Palmon was here. Is that true?
Palmon, if you're there, how are you doing? Are you happy to be back in Japan? Mike and I miss you here in New York... When are you coming back to visit us?
It's lonely here now that Wallace and Mimi are gone. I miss seeing other Digimon... Maybe you guys can get your humans to take you to the Digital World, and I can get Mike to find a way for us to go there. I'd like to visit again.
I'd also like to go there as Seadramon, so I could go for another long swim. The bathtub here just isn't as fun... There's nowhere to swim to, and it's too cold to go swimming outside here in New York. I wish Mike had time off, so we could go to Florida again or something. I like it there, it's so hot!
But I guess I have been talking on here for a long time, huh? Well, I will stop talking here for now... But I'll be back, so you guys better talk back to me! I miss talking to other Digimon.
Bye for now!
