So tonight's been fun. In Bokurano_RP, we're exploring a subplot with girls from The Path. What is The Path, you might ask? Well, I've got a small tag for it -- and I mean small -- and it's an indie game that I played a little over a year ago, back in July of 2010. I discussed this earlier, but essentially, we've got in our world something called The Otherworld. It's the afterlife, essentially, the Place Where All Thoughts Go. EVERYONE lives multiple lives...but if you kill yourself, you have to conquer what it was that caused you take your own life, something that keeps you from living another life until you do -- something that manifests in the form of a "wolf."
That's the basics relating to this. There are six girls -- the main characters from The Path -- who have been there for such a long time. They have changed their appearances and have bonded, becoming so close that they call themselves sisters, going so far as to change their names. As we've gone on into the game, we've learned more and more about the people they were before they died. I play Robin, the youngest sister in the game and one who looks a lot like Little Red Riding Hood. One of the sisters has had it and wants to live again. She wants all her sisters to as well, so she's forcing them to try and conquer their wolves.
But it's not working that well, naturally, and they're trapped in her subconscious, along with their wolves.
So this brought the opportunity-- well, requirement-- to think more about who Robin was before she died and what her wolf really is. How I interpreted it was she was a girl who was fascinated with death. She found the idea of death and what lies beyond more interesting than life and took her own life, discovering she really did like the Otherworld better. Her wolf is a literal werewolf, her mindscape a graveyard. But then I started to think...
Well, there needs to be more to this girl. And I'm not going to talk about it much because I want there to be surprise in-game, but I really love what the girl who's playing her wolf and I have made the backstory. This whole plot gets me excited, because I can't wait to learn more about these interpretations of the girls in this world, and it makes me want to replay The Path. What started as a little fun-loving girl, mostly played because the other characters had been picked up, has turned into a fascinating rounded character with a much greater grasp of death and what life really means than she appears. I believe as I said, she's the master of obfuscating stupidity, and it makes me excited to play more with her.
So, The Path. ...Yeah, um. The Path. It's wonderful. Tales of Tales made it, just search it, it's a different experience, but it's really a great one, I think. Interpretation is what it's all about. :) Cutting this off now, haha.
