On rolls the season poll saga to Bill H's last full year as the Doctor - featuring monster epic The Dalek Master Plan, controversial musical interludes, THE MONOIDS, and much more

WOTAN is the second best companion that never was!
I have actually read a rub PAST DOCTOR ADVENTURE book, Doctor 5 I think, which returned to the Celestial Toymaker which started off really good ie by making references to Adric's body odour all the time, and then flashbacks to REBELLIOUS DOCTOR at Gallifrey Junior High, but then got bogged down in all the crap that I'm sure made Celestial Toymaker bad anyway. NB when I say "seen", I'm counting the bit of the episode that's in the Hartnell years where companions play stepping stones and some extra is Bill's STUNT HANDS playing what appears to be TriOminos.
viz also Doctor in a nightclub with SAUCY SAILORS telling him he "needs a bit of cheering up"! Marv. I hope they reference that episode w. Captain Jack in Torchwood.
It was firmly within my comfort zone - people playing games, someone from Blue Peter and the Celestial Toymaker himself seemed a good yoke. There does appear to be a lot of RUB about his "godlike" status etc etc, why did he capture the Doc ANYWAY etc. And wasn't it just an excuse for Bill to go off on his hols? I think a similar thing happened in the Seeds of Death where Pat is "unconscious" for an episode or summat.
Reasons The Ark Is GreatfreakytiggerJuly 27 2006, 11:35:01 UTC
- space zoo with real actual elephant - great two stories in one structure - real grandeur in the destruction of earth scenes, helped by director framing spaceship bridge action like a classical tragedy - episode 2 has one of the best cliffhangers of all time. - both humans and Monoids are poor rulers so there's no obvious good/bad guy (or rather - the latterday Monoids ARE bad but still vaguely sympathetic)
Admittedly there are some weaknesses in execution but it's a strong, imaginative story.
