You're a stranger now unto me / Lost in the dangling conversation.

Once there was a girl.

She was nice enough most of the time and some people liked her. Her favorite herb was rosemary. Partly because it smelled wonderful but also kinda because of that old Simon and Garfunkel song, you know, "parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme". She thought that anyone who could make a song out of herbs and spices was all right in her book. She cried every time she watched "Reality Bites". The part where Troy comes back from his father's funeral and is all sad-eyed and just wants Lelaina to know that he loves her, it got her every time. The Dali poster on her wall made her smile when she saw the butterflies stopped in motion. She wondered where they'd go if they had the chance.

She didn't believe in destiny or fate or soulmates and this tended to make people mad. She didn't think there was one person out there for her. She'd find someone, but maybe he wouldn't be the right one. She guessed that she'd never know. She fell in love, maybe not love, but something like that. She loved many people, but in her own way. She liked to hug people, holding them close made her feel complete. She worked hard and slept too little and she loved her life. She was happy, she didn't want things to change.

But as they often do, things did change. People grew up and moved on. She thought to herself, Why is everything changing? I don't understand, I've been the same for so long and everyone is different. Then one night she sat on a folding chair in a backyard, under the stars, and she saw the truth. She had changed. Like the Missing Piece, she had been rolling along trying to find her way in the world and suddenly, there it was. Those years had changed her, a little for the worse but mostly for the better. She had picked up scars along the way, but still she smiled because they were reminders of things accomplished.

And she was happy.

This is her story.
