old poems

Aug 28, 2004 22:03

recently i've been wading through 7 years of poetry and copying the ones i like into a GIANT new journal. these are all old ones.

BAD SEASONS (feb. 22nd, 2001)

february made us all
shiver
snowfall like heavy blankets
fell in in layers
around us
bare trees
swayed and shuddered
as though embarassed
of their nakedness.
i drew heat from you
like blood
while the wind howled in my ears
i pull my winter coat closed
and shiver
glad not to be naked today.

DIMENSIONAL EXISTENCE IN MY FRONT YARD (july 30th, 2002)

i am staring at a tree
and though i know
it is supposed to be 3-dimensional
its shape surprises me.

the branches reach out
twist serpentine
round each other
popping out and poking in.

brilliant green swaying giant
splayed out
in a kaleidescope of one hue
against matte blue sky
no clouds no texture.

and yet it amazes me that such a tree exists
here and now
in this white suburbia
this hole of a city
where i also exist.

this tree
and me.
