things that are beautiful tonight.

how sophie the lonely lhasa apso sniffs the grass when she walks outside.  we don't meet a lot of other dogs in our travels, but she can smell them.  she communicates with them.  she's a long way from her pack, but she hunts out scents of fellow mutts to prove she's not alone.  she lets them know they're not alone either.  she lets them know that with pee.

how everything around us is the culmination of someone's dream.  every meal we eat.  every tv show we watch.  every home we live in.  every shirt we buy.  somehow somewhere everything started with someone saying, "wouldn't it be neat if...?" and ended with that someone being really good at getting an answer to that question.

how wonderful the english accent sounds.  sometimes i slip into it when no one is around.  i like the way it feels in my mouth.  sometimes i narrate my day with it.  sometimes i have conversations that i want to have but can't have with people who i want to confront but can't confront.  sometimes i express road rage.  sometimes i sing.

how so many of us believe that things are meant to be.  because either things are meant to be, or they aren't, but they're so good that we believe they're meant to be.

how maybe having an orgasm is the closest we can come to feeling the big bang that started us all here in the first place.

how i have no solid answers about who we are or why we're here or what made us or what's out there that's bigger than us.  but how i believe that we're here to speak for the universe.  to point at it and call it beautiful.  we are the part of it that gets to look at all its other tiny parts and try to figure them out.  and to laugh and to cry and to explore and to find meaning.  it's the fact that we can't just sit back and rely on instinct , that we cant just accept our surroundings without challenging them...it's that that makes us both the most horrible and the most incredibly fantastic.

how there was another beautiful thing and now all I can see is what my face looked like in the mirror when I thought of it.
