At the Baker's Crust Holiday party, held at the local bowling alley (cause we're that classy), I got into yet another debate with the cook who has been trying to convince me to "come around" and sleep with him since I first got the job. "Woman came from man," he said, gesturing to his ribs. I told him not to feed me any of that Adam and Eve bullshit. After assuring me that he respects everyone's beliefs, he pointed to the vending machine next to us. "A man is like this machine, and women are like the little toys inside." Wow, dude. Do you use that line to get all the girls? He keeps trying to get to the bottom of "what happened" to make me gay. I could probably pin sexual harassment on him, but then what other amusing anecdotes would I have to write about in my live journal?
I may or may not drink beer that has fish something-or-other (isinglass) in it. I work at a restaurant where I often have to clean the fat and grease off of the roaster, where whole chickens slap each other's little plucked wings together as they spin around. I ask people daily if they'd like to add bacon or sausage with their breakfast, just so the tip percentage will be higher. I lie about how delicious the meatloaf is, because once you say "vegetarian" you lose all credibility. I kind of suck. Though, when I was working retail I was still selling leather jackets and shit. I guess this is just a little more obvious and a lot more gruesome.
I only got $4 back for the one textbook I sold this semester. It seemed like a total ripoff, but then I turned around and bought Jack Kerouac's On The Road, an acting book, a poetry book, and some random play all for the same $4. I felt it was a fair trade.
I'm late for work now.
I actually like reading these over later on...
What did you do in 2006 that you'd never done before?
First credit card, first Shakespeare, first car accident.
Did you keep your new year's resolutions and will you make more next year?
My resolutions every year are to stop procrastinating and be more organized. I'll get around to that eventually if I can just find where I put that thing...
Did anyone close to you give birth?
A couple of people I used to work with are preggers.
Did anyone close to you die?
No.
What date from 2006 will remain etched on your memory and why?
I'm bad with dates, but there are a few days that I'll always remember. Wrestling the razor from her hand. The 4 am text and subsequent events. The myspace break up. These receive the honorable "forever" slots in my brain by being the most intense. I wish I could remember every time I saw a cute animal or a sunset as easily.

Making it through, and with a half decent GPA.
What was your biggest failure?
The C I got in European History, being a shitty friend to a few people, and losing my car.

Everyone who drove my lame ass around last month.

My trip to NY and Boston over the summer!
What song will always remind you of 2006?
"Hide and Seek"
Happier or sadder?
Eh, that's a complicated question. A lot of the things that made me happy last year made me sad this year.
Thinner or fatter?
Thinner than when I was working the counter and there were broken cookies and day old pastries and vast amounts of freshly baked bread just laying around with little Alice in Wonderland "eat me" signs on them.
Richer or poorer?
Poorest ever at the moment.
What do you wish you'd done more of?
Read when I actually had time to read, used my Busch Gardens/Water Country pass, and gone to White Tail.
What do you wish you'd done less of?
Beaten myself up for things I really didn't have any control over.
How will you be spending Christmas?
Not traveling, just chilling with the VA family.
Did you fall in love in 2006?

A printer. And new work shoes. Fuck do my feet hurt.

I missed most of the films I wanted to see. Imagine Me and You was pretty adorable. Snakes on a Plane deserves an honorable mention at least. And I finally saw Boondock Saints.
What did you do on your birthday and how old were you? My golden birthday: 22 on the 22nd. It was kind of random and last minute: matinee of Macbeth, roller derby, karaoke at Cruizers. Good times, good friends, good booze, good songs, and a couple of good kisses.

A cloning machine for to make student Cayley, waitress Cayley, actress Cayley, and have-a-life Cayley. That, and a Del Fiore's in Virginia.
How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2006?
About the same as it was in 2005. Not much room in the budget for new clothes.

2006 Part I - Laura, Part II - VonTrell
What celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
The Kates: Moennig and Sackhoff
What political issue stirred you the most?
That ridiculous marriage amendment.

Hmm...I've actually met a ton of fantastic people this year. Meg and her friends who adopted me, especially Jon and Ewa. The Crustaceans. A few of those crazy theatre kids at ODU.
