Men are often accused of not being able to remember anniversaries. Gizmodo (9/21/07) posted about the "Remember Ring", which heats up annually to remind the wearer of their wedding anniversary. Who remembers faces better? Horgan et al. (2004) suspected it would be women, because of their "greater interpersonal orientation", and in the five experiments they ran, women did score better. Wolf et al (2001) tested how the relationship between stress-induced cortisol levels affected healthy adult men and women. While they found that higher cortisol levels correlated with lower memory performance in men, there was no such relationship for women. Piefke et al. (2005) compared the brain activity of men and women involved in autobiographical memory. They found that while both groups showed bilateral activation in the medial and lateral temporal areas, there were some differential activations.
