First thing I thought of: A blanket. This is probably influenced by the fact that it's frigid outside. In reality, I would probably grab the cats if I could.
"are you prepared for a disaster"
Again, my first response would be to ask "what kind of disaster?" I mean, the most likely disasters would be a tornado, or I suppose a house fire. In either case, if everyone gets alive and ok, I'd have to say yes. I do think I'm as well-prepared for either case that I would have a good chance of actually getting people out alive and ok. (Not sure about the cats, they're usually clingy but I don't know how they'd react in an emergency; typically during tornado sirens they do come downstairs with us, though)
So maybe my take on it is totally different from what other people's are? Or maybe the survey questions were designed to lead to those kinds of answers, rather than the "get everyone out/safe" kind of answers. I can't really tell from the first article; in the latter it seems like they're focusing on actual evacuations where you have at least some notice, which is pretty unlikely here. Disasters here are more sudden, though I suppose if we lived elsewhere there would be the potential for flooding (happened last year), but we don't live anywhere near a flood plain.
Maybe I should worry about when Yellowstone finally decides to blow? ;)
