PLEASE NOTE: This introductory post to the advent calendar is open for everyone but to see the event during December you need to be a member of the community!
So now that we’re over and done with the amazing D/K Oktoberfest 2010 (except for some possible late admissions this week; and you can find the archive here), it’s time for the Christmas event :) You wished for an advent calendar so I bring you the advent calendar! There’s still gonna be an entry or two to wrap up the Oktoberfest but let’s get into this first :)

The D/K Advent Calendar 2010
The idea is simple. We want you to write a drabble (or a small ficlet) or draw a fanart, or come up with something else super amazing, and give it to us during November. The goal is to get at least 26 different fanworks, since of course an advent calendar needs to cover the days from 1st December to 24th December at least, and since in some countries Christmas is celebrated only on 25th we wanted to include it as well.
You don’t need to worry about the dates, nor about the amount of fanworks. We will do the posting for you, simply to make sure that the advent calendar will be opened every single day and that we won’t miss a day. So when we receive your fanworks, we will do a fair lottery with them to see which will be posted when. If we get more submissions than 26, then all the extra ones will be posted on 25th.
Here’s a summary of it all still.
Step by step guide;
# Step 1: Create!
The first thing you need to do is to write a drabble, draw a fanart, or do whatever else you come up with. Make sure it revolves around D/K though! We would love it if the works would revolve around Christmas or winter as a theme. So anything wintery or Christmassy that tickles your fancy! It’s not that strict though, basically anything D/K goes!
# Step 2: Submit!
Give your finished artwork to us. You can email them to fonulyn@gmail.com. It means that you should not post them anywhere, only hand them over to us in secrecy. Please make sure that you include everything needed to the file, it would be very much appreciated if the fanwork would include summaries, author names and everything.
Here is an example of how it could look like. If you wish, you can of course use your own style with that, no need to follow this precisely. All we ask for is that the fanwork includes author’s/artist’s name, rating , title and disclaimer. Otherwise, nothing else is obligatory.

# Step 3: Enjoy!
Now your work is done! All you have to do, is to wait for December to come. Then we will post the fanworks one by one, and you will get a nice daily advent calendar :) We will only post the works at diexkaorulove (and archive them over at dxk_archives) so all cross-posting you need to do yourself afterwards if you wish to do so.
There are only a few more things to remember. I promise, a short list.
# Please, do not share your fanwork before it’s been published in the calendar.
You are of course allowed to post your own fanworks in your creative journal, and cross post them as much as you wish. All we ask for is that you will not do that before your work has been posted for the calendar. It would kind of ruin the surprise if the works are floating around already before they’ve been seen in the calendar, right? So hold back with your cross-posting until we’re done!
# If you wish, you may submit more than one fanwork. In fact it’s encouraged!
Of course we would like to get as many people participate as possible. But that’s not an issue! If we get more submissions than we have days, we will just post all the remaining ones either on 25th or divided on a few following days if it seems there’s all too much. So if you have good ideas and you want to submit more than one work, it is very much appreciated! In the bottom of the post you can see the current count on how many fanworks we currently have (pity the poor 0 and help us get to at least 1! ;D)
# Remember that this is Christmas time! And that we celebrate it D/K-style!
While we of course can’t forbid you to write something sad and depressing, we do wish that you wouldn’t. We are all looking forward to Christmas and the new fanworks should be happy surprises. It doesn’t mean it has to be all mushy though! Of course there can be melancholy in the air. Just please refrain from the most depressing angst. And remember, this is a D/K Advent Calendar, so make sure your fanworks revolve around D/K!
# If you write a fic, it should NOT be multi-chaptered.
We are sorry to do this to the writers, who want to create whole epic worlds, but simply for practical reasons we only accept oneshots. The idea is that every day you get something complete, and having an epilogue or a prologue to a new fic on one of the days would kind of defeat the purpose. We are expecting drabbles and ficlets mostly, so a good wordcount could be something like 500 to 3000. If you want to go over it, it’s alright, as long as your work fits into one entry. But already 200 words would be amazing!
