So I watched two movies this past weekend, The Descent and The Protector. In case you haven't seen these, a summary:

The Descent is a horror movie about six women cavers (six chicks with picks) who "descend" into an undiscovered cave, get stuck, and realize there are creepy, pale, flesh-eating people already living there. As the characters die in fairly unexpected ways, the ones left start to go insane, hence the writer going on and on in the special features about how it's really a 'descent into madness.' Pretty good as far as horror movies go, and not nearly as predictable as I had expected.

But.

The six women? Friends from England, though one, for no explained reason, is Swedish (her 'sister' is not). The cave they explore is set in the Appalachian mountians, and filmed in Scottland.

The Protector is a martial arts movie whose plot is basically:

Main guy has great love of his elephants.
Bad guy steals his elephants.
Main guy goes to get elephants back.

Not to say I was expecting great dramatic plot twists in a movie who's own printed cover didn't have a plot summary (just a description of how cool the main guy's martial arts skills are), but come on.

And the weird thing with this movie was that the elephants were stolen from Thailand by Thai theives, who then transported then to Australia. Apparently Australia has a large and almighty Thai maffia family. Also, it's policed by Thai cops. And the people in Australia? They're Thai.

So I watched one movie about six somewhat-English women going to the Appalachians in Scottland, and another about the Thai people of Australia. Oh, and the main bad lady in the Thai movie? Played by a Chinese transvestite.
