It is (or perhaps, was) today! I celebrated not only by playing Street Fighter X Mega Man, which is host to probably some of the best-designed boss battles in years (save for one)...
I also decided to replay the original game, which I proceed to go without any deaths (even near-perfecting the Yellow Devil just with the buster, someone pointed out the boss doesn't quite live up to their infamy and now I have to agree) up until the final stage, where Guts Man's rematch got me twice, and Wily once.
On the final hit against Wily, Mega Man's back was turned with his eyes closed. He knew that he'd be doing this for another quarter century, but nonetheless would continue to fight for everlasting peace across nearly countless games, spinoffs, and consoles.
Oh yeah, final score: 1387600. Not that it matters much since you can easily farm point pellets, but hey - that was the only game to keep a more or less pointless score.
Either way, happy 25th to one of gaming's most beloved franchises.
