Fresh Start

OK - I've recently turned 41, been separated from my husband for over a year and came off anti-depressent's at the beginning of the year. Enough for the brief history of my life.

I think it's about time I took myself in hand (yet again) and started out on a "healthy eating plan", otherwise know to all as yet another diet.

On 6 January this year I started a complete meal replacement diet known as Lighter Life where you abstain completely from all food and can only drink water. Sounds a bit drastic you may say, and you'd be right, but when you weight 33st 8lb you need to do something drastic. Anyway, I lost 6st 7lb on this diet by the end of June and then, for various reasons, could not afford to continue (it costs £45 per week for 21 foodpacks). Even though it is quite expensive you (supposedly) do not have to buy any food or drink on top of that. However, being the rebel that I am, I got the stage where I simply WANTED to EAT and started to cheat - took longer than normal but, nevertheless, there is was - I was cheating.

I was still losing weight though.

Since I have come off of this diet I have probably put back on around a stone and half - haven''t actually weight myself for a couple of weeks.

So - this week I am going to NOT take any money to work with me, so I won't be able to use the drink sweetie vending machines; I am NOT going to have any takeaways (that's the biggie 'cos I can't be bothered to cook when I get home); and I AM going to remember to take a packed lunch with me when I go to work.

I know all of the above sounds like the same old promises that I always make when I'm going to start a diet, but I believe that this time WILL BE DIFFERENT. I am going to continue going to exercise class and/or swim as LEAST once a week (even if I have to join another gym closer to home as well as going to the pool).

Having lost so much weight so quickly I can feel the difference in my body. OK, I still weigh on the very high side of 27 stone (possibly low 28) but I no longer have to put both feet on each step before I can go up another one when going upstairs. I no longer have to heave myself up the stairs with the help of the bannister (which is probably just as well because it's starting to come away from the wall).

Now that we finally have some good weather in this country, I feel unhappy that I'm unable to be out there enjoying it because I still get tired too easily and the sweat makes walking uncomfortable (OK - possibly too much information - sorry) :-)

Anyway. I'm going now as it's too hot to think anymore :-)
