The movie, the movie!

What did you think of the Dursleys in Order of the Phoenix, all?

Movie spoilers!

I don't know about you folks, but I totally loved the way our Dursley friends were in the newest film.

Vernon was kooky and strange, in just the right way, in my opinion. I LOVED how they showed how important the neighbors are to the Dursleys-- covering Dudders with a ( Read more... )

I thought Vernon was weird with his ice cream or whatever and I SO wanted to bang Petunia. Dirty little MILF. *smirk*

Dudley was the coolest thing of the whole first half of the movie besides seeing a few seconds of Draco. Dudley kind of is more of a threat because he can't do magic but can still frighten Harry on some level. Also, Dudley is family and you can't deny the fact that being Harry's flesh and blood makes him more of a threat than movieverse Draco.

And the fact that movieverse Draco has been ROBBED of screen time. And I was thinking about the first film and how they robbed Piers of screen time. But I dunno, if he was there or not. I can't remember...

Egads, I was angsting about Piers, too... he was supposed to be Duddy's little fwend at the zoo. *grin!* I wanted to see Piers hold down wee kids while Dudley hit them... really, truly, Harry Melling could've been the most wicked little kidlet EVER if they'd had better direction and writing (I'm biased! gah!).

Have you heard the song "Big Wheel" by Tori Amos? She keeps repeating "I am a MILF, don't you forget"... needless to say, it was stuck in my head after the film.

YES DRACO GAH! Draco and Dudley are both supposed to be evil in equal amounts, but in opposite ways. Dudley came off as spooky-mean and Draco comes off as.. "tee hee hee, hahaha, lookie me, I'm saying something really fast and running away!" If I were Tom Felton, I'd be so PISSED over that! I mean, Draco's supposed to be harsh.

I did like that with the casting of HM, what with the dark hair, you have a Harry and Dudley who could realistically pass for cousins.

What is a MILF?

But from my own musings I do have these two excerpts:

6) As a thin girl with hefty calves I may be a bit hypersensitive but my God, does Fiona Shaw (Petunia) have great legs. I also dig the teeny sundress and I thought it was hilarious the normally so stiff and restrained Petunia sitting with her legs splayed (not shown at an angle that would compromise dignity, just so that the audience will get an idea) because of the heat. I could never imagine Petunia being like this in canon but who cares? She's hot!

9) I love Dudley (and Harry Melling was too cute when he was younger, although he's hardly what you would call ugly now). I'm also glad they kept in Dudley's gang. They may be bullies but they're also childhood mates. I'm corny like that.I also have to agree on Harry Melling being very good at playing a very nasty Dudley. While he was younger he played the spoiled brat element so well but his nastier edge in this film was really good. I always found it funny because in the POA DVD extras interview he seemed like ( ... )

Oh god, that is my fuel.. I put in the PoA DVD every time I need a laugh. When he (Melling) says "No one notices me" and Vernon (Richard Griffiths)bursts into laughter, then says "Sorry, sorry." ... I love that! They WERE the Dursleys, but in a parallel way.

MILF is, cheekily enough, a Mother-I'd-Like-to-F*ck. But calling Petunia a MILF doesn't mean I want to sleep with her, but I'm rather sure one of Dudley's pals wouldn't mind her... (I touch on that in my fic, btw. ^_^) Go, Petunia!!!!

Ah, I see. Hee. Fiona Shaw's gorgeous without trying too hard.
I just love the camaraderie between the Dursley actors. I think the actors' and the characters' relationships are reflected best in CoS with the whole preparing for the Mason dinner. I don't care that they're meant to be seen as greedy social climbers- I still think it's cute in a ridiculous way!

Yeah, especially Vernon doing Dudley's tie.

I didn't really like the ice-cream part, that just seemed like a lazy fat joke; although I loved Vernon's 'Justice!' and how he was mad because of Harry's proximity getting Dudley hurt again rather than just cartoonish 'Muhahahaha, I hate orphans ( ... )

Mellings' delivery seemed a bit odd to me - his accent sounded different from previous films -- yes! totally odd, but it worked for me. I got the feeling he was chav'ing up his previously more upper-class accent for the boys. I wish we could have heard him talk to Mummy and Daddy.

I would rather they'd kept Harry needling him rather than making Harry this innocent little victim-- *whistles* Didn't think of it that way. Yes movie!harry seems a bit dull with his comebacks, while in the books he's pretty witty.. and he and Dudley play off each other really "well" in the books.

I forgot to mention that in the movie, it seemed perfect that we could see Dudley isn't as stupid as Harry thinks him to be. His timing was evil. And the straight face was so much better than sneering, as he did in the first film.
