Well, today Colette celebrates a birthday... and leaves with her thirteen year old daughter on a two-month cross country trip. I really admire what she's doing...and you should see her agenda for this educational voyage with Claire. It's amazing! Her desire is to use this time to deepen their relationship, explore learning in a whole new way, with the world as their classroom. It's a broad and fanTAStic vision, and i applaud it! Thirteen can be a hard age, and i think Colette remembers her own struggles during adolesence. What a wonderful way to show Claire how much she matters.
Sometimes i wish i could have helped my kids' educational experience be better. I didn't have the money for Waldorf, or the wherewithal to homeschool... so they just had the public school experience. I have to say, though~ i could not be prouder of the people they have become. They are creative, bright, talented, compassionate, beautiful, soulful .... i am wild about them. I will always treasure conversations we've had about LIFE, and what it is that they're passionate about. The best thing? It's not all about them; it's about how they can contribute to the world. They are not selfish, or self-absorbed. They care about honestly expressing who they are in their art, and sharing the truth that they see. There is something so noble and good about inspiring another to dwell on the question of what is true in the world. Good music, good writing, good acting can DO that... it can challenge.
I get so excited when i think of the possibilities that lie before them... all of our kids. The potential for the beauty and color they can give to the world is amazing.
Oh~ gotta run. As Caela says, love love love.
