Weekend Rewind - All Stars Basketball

Mar 28, 2022 10:13

This post will be HEAVY on JJ's "All Stars" basketball weekend... let's GO!

Friday, March 25th:
* Ended the work day a little after 4pm.
* Packed, kids ready, headed out the door at 440pm.
* Easy drive, no traffic, no stops - arrived at the hotel at 715pm. (Admiral Inn - Mississauga)
* Checked in (told my hubby to keep the boys with him until I finished checking in, but NO - I had all THREE kids standing next to me as I was checking in and the front desk guy was like "How many kids do you have?", of course I couldn't lie as my kids were RIGHT next to me, and us being Asian, I couldn't exclude one saying "that's not my kid"... so I answered "3" - "Rooms are only 4 occupancy" - of course I KNEW this... but I shrugged it off and said "well these two little ones are under 10, so I can't have them staying in a separate room", the front person let it go and I didn't build it up, so that was that)... NEXT TIME KEEP THE KIDS AWAY FROM ME! LOL
* We got into our room and the little ones quickly changed into their swimsuits to go swimming in the pool (the other team members siblings were already in the pool) JJ went to play basketball with the other 3 boys. Hubby rested in the room while I chatted it up with the other parents by the poolside.
* Went back to our rooms a little after 930ish and had a late dinner. We brought food from home and warmed it up in the microwave. I also enjoyed a nice can of Mike Hard Lemonade and snacked on chips while watching a bit of TV.
* Called it a night at 1130pm.

Saturday, March 26th:
* Woke up at 730am. Brushed my teeth and put my hair in a "mom bun".
* Went to eat breakfast at the hotel - free HOT breakfast included - went with Chelsea and JJ (enjoyed scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon and bread)
* Returned back to our room to change and do my makeup
* At 920am we left the hotel to go to the facility where the event was taking place.
* No traffic, easy driving made up arrive a bit earlier than anticipated. We situated ourselves and found good seating.
* Soon the other team members arrived - the day started with a team warm-up/practice.
* Afterwards the boys went into a different room for Media/Photoshoot. Each of the boys got interviewed and I had a great time prepping JJ for his... he was SO nervous - it was cute! Eventually it was his turn and he did AMAZING... I have it on video and posted it on facebook. Definitely a "proud mama moment". Just a glimpse of what will be to come when he gets older (HOPING!).
* It was past noon when that was done and we were HANGRY... we went to Vaughn Mills Mall to eat at the food court and then went shopping for a bit.
* JJ wanted to return to the facility to watch his team members do their competition (Evan's was skill competition and we missed that as we were at the mall during that time).
* At this time it was 430pm and Lennox was the last one to do the 3pt competition.
* We dropped JJ off with the other team members and he hitched a ride back to the hotel with them.
* The rest of us went home because hubby was SLEEPY and the little ones wanted to play on their iPads, instead of watching more basketball stuff. I was getting a bit tired as well and went back to the hotel. I had a good 1hr nap, hubby a bit longer. The little ones watched TV and played on their electronics.
* At 7pm JJ returned back to the hotel and we started getting ready to go out.
* The whole gang planned to go to "Dave and Busters" for dinner and games. It was also to celebrate Taevien's birthday (and also JJ and Brody's).
* We got there at 730pm and since there were 19 of us in total, we had to wait 2 hours for a table... we decided to play games while we waited.
* Chelsea won 4 more rubber ducks from the duck game (to add to her collection from the last time we played at an arcade and she had won 6 ducks).
* Brody played on a bunch of different games
* JJ spent most of his time playing with his friends and a few with his siblings.
* We finally got our table at 10pm (OMG! We were HANGRY at his point).
* We situated ourselevs, got our drinks and put in our order
* At 1145pm we finally got our food (mac and cheese for the little ones and burgers for JJ, hubby and I)
* We got cake for Taevien and JJ and sang "Happy Birthday" to them
* Ended the night a little after midnight and went back to the hotel (Thank goodness the hotel was only 5 minute drive away)

Sunday, March 27th:
* Woke up at 730am. Showered and got ready
* Went to eat breakfast at the hotel (again scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon and toast)
* Attended online church at 930am
* Packed everything up, cleaned up the room a bit and checked out at 11am
* We stayed in the room for a bit longer to organize ourselves and left at 1145am.
* We arrived at the facility and JJ got his new basketball uniform to play for the All Star Games - West vs. East. West wore a grey uniform and East wore a red uniform. I was hoping JJ would get the red uniform as it looks more flashier, but of course he ended up with grey. Once his other team members (Taevien and Lennox) showed up they both ended up getting red uniforms - and it turned out that they were playing opposing teams. I immediately thought and felt that JJ would lose this game.
* The game started and they did the whole All Stars introductions with lights, smoke and music.... it was kind of EPIC and exciting... JJ was the last one announced and really did feel like a star! LOL
* JJ's team ended up WINNING and JJ made 10 shots out of the total score 28. He was on FIRE and they played SO WELL together. This is quite impressive as JJ has never played with these boys before, he doesn't know any of the boys on his team, but yet the dynamics was AMAZING. You can tell the difference when JJ gets to play with boys who really know the game.
* Everyone thought JJ would get MVP because of his MANY shots, BUT they ended up giving it to another boy (who hardly did anyone on the court). Some people were surprised by this, but OH WELL, Whatever... I'm just happy that JJ got to experience something like this (similar to the pros All Stars Game) and it'll definitely be a memory he'll remember, keep and cherish
* The event ended at 230pm and we immediately left to go home
* The ride back home was WICKEDLY WILD! The weather changed constantly from snow storm, fog, sleet, rain, sunshine, etc.
* We arrived home at 530pm and was greeted by my parents - with DINNER!
* We unpacked our things and ate
* The rest of the night was spent doing laundry (for me) - I went to bed a little after 11pm

So that was it... All Stars weekend. So happy we made a family affair out of this and had such a WONDERFUL time. As for JJ - it was an experience he'll never forget, neither will I as I got to live vicariously through him.
