I was in the library this afternoon looking for a good world history book. I'm having a hard time catching up with the Middle Ages so I scanned all books that belong to the catalogue of western civilization. And then I found a book called "A History of the Modern World". It stood out because it is colored and was printed on glossy paper, and it is new, though that is relative to the state of the other history books who look as old as the stories they tell.
So anyway, I went through the first chapter which was entitled "The Rise of Europe". I read the first paragraph and I almost burst into fits of laughter because of how lame the first line is. It said:
"It may seem strange for a history of the modern world to begin with the European Middle Ages,
for Europe is not the world and the Middle Ages were not modern."
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. SERIOUSLY? YOU CALL THIS A TEXTBOOK? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
