what standing opinions to have?

Jun 19, 2007 22:56

this is not going in my personal private wiki because, well, i want to "get rid of it". and journals that exist outside my harddrive have a way of feeling more ephemeral. something to nurture and then let go. but we know that's not really what's happening.  i do get a lot out of reading these ages later.

the time has come to stand for something. or stand on something. just to stop sinking over and over again (every night i sink?) i have recently given up the opinion that opinions are not worth the time and energy to be having. (if you have an opinion and you find yourself wasting time and energy, you're doing it wrong!)

what standing opinions to have?

(and let's invoke my good friend igliashon's terminology here: weyken as meaning something you're trying on as opposed to fully committing to a "belief". but i'm not sure if this requires more skepticism than i'm willing to muster, as i'm intersecting it with a sentiment of, "believe whatever you want, so long as it works" from Aleister Crowley, and the idea of the non-necessity of everything from..., and the idea of "metaprogramming" which I still need to read up on. right now, my concept is, as my environment can and does reprogram me, so can i reprogram myself, and that's a node of composition. (points in that direction have come from the other good microtonal friend whom i barely know, andrew aaron heathwaite.))

so far:
¿ascetic?: I stand for the conscious and deliberate deprivation of access to certain cross sections of reality, mostly with the intent of surprising and impressing myself (and others) with actions from willpower, and perhaps in the hope of accidental inherent benefits but with no obsession with "having a reason". vegetarianism, occasional fasting, ¿abstinence?, and then there's this tough one:

forgo prerecorded video programmes and subvert (seduce) others' efforts to remain blobs. offer a living breathing creative alternative. for them and for you. slogan: "make yo' own fun."  in my own family household this is a huge challenge.

self-improvement in various spheres, currently:
-metaprogramming: changing beliefs
-getting emotional (using nonbrained effect as cause! of course you're familiar with the notion of smiling to become happy...)
-prioritizing (with reptile-brain intuition, even!)
-circular breathing
-sewing (i've got two pants that have become "balls-out"; kind of useless in non-nudist society! or usefulll? (insert some sort of naughty smiley here)
-¿website building, flash programming? bleh
-repertoire building (an entire mindset on life: try, at every turn, to turn every turn into something i could add to my little book of possible performances (which is at the moment empty))

-superficial judgement that doesn't gross me out and maybe is useful. reading a quite-interesting book about body language and another about handwriting analysis.  i'm dubious if ¿i'm "this kind of person"?

...have i told you yet about my ideas for splitting my personality? eh, forget it. i'm too behind to get to that this year.

as usual, i've devolved into a prescriptive to-do list. blahg.  what standing opinions to have? what do i already hold fast to???:

1. violence is not cool.
2. some trust all, some trust some, ho! some trust one, I trust none, Ho! ...not even myself. -Moondog
3. on the other hand, things matter insofar as people say them.
4. variety and alternatives are cool as parameters of freedom.
5. (shakily) new structures in which to think, structures which increase the variety of human thought can be intentionally designed.
6. on the other hand, a respect for the sometimes awesome power of accident. and it is way sexier to find a point of leverage and cause a huge-ass system to change itself by way of an ingenious perturbation, than it is to ... not.  but how?
7. elitism and knowledge-hoarding and -hiding are not cool.
8. on the other hard, reality is wrinkled and nobody's going to get total knowledge. ever.  the best i can do to help others is tell them what i think it is beneficial for them to hear.
9. despite the herd-mind-creating effect of mainstream education, there is enough variety in each person's way of thinking (brain structures) that we can learn a lot from each other simply by observing our everyday conversations in greater detail.
10. (generalization of 8 and 9) weird is cool. weird in the sense of unique, the result of giving a unique set of initial conditions sufficient boundaries and time to mature. maybe i need a new word.

what else?
