Writer's Block: Investigations of a Female Nature

Amelia Peabody from the series of the same name written by Elizabeth Peters.

Those books are one of my fave series.  I remember picking up the first book while I was in Toronto and falling in love with the characters.  It's been so interesting to read the books because the characters aren't static.  They change and grow and the series goes on.   ( Read more... )

that's what i thought but was double checking - i adopted my dog a few weeks ago & that's what i'm thinking he is, and he looks identical almost to your dog - just checking that they were the same, hah!

What a cutie! Your pup does indeed look like he has some Catahoula Leopard in him. This breed is mainly found in Louisiana, so may I ask where you are?

I live in middle Georgia, the rescue's he's from is further south than I am.

(fair warning this is a tad long so you don't have to read)

They didn't tell me where he was from, I just know he wasn't a surrendor, someone found him. I know I have read a lot of people lable 'Catahoula' crosses just b/c of their color.

So, when I saw him it said "Catahoula mix", but at first he really looked like a Weimi, and the girl in charge of the rescue said that the ATL Weimi Rescue was so full that they were contacting her for places, so it's possible he came from Alabama, even.

Also, we kind of wondered if it was an intentional cross-breed, b/c his tail is docked... anywho, we've had a teeny bit of difficulty transitioning, etc. However, after looking up Catahoulas today it was like I had cracked the code! Like why when he goes outside he just barks up trees, it's common of them. And that they can be protective/aggressive, he's somewhat food aggressive, I just put his food in when he's not around because I haven't had the time to access whether it's people &/or animals - also I don't know if that's b/c of the breed or if he was straying for a while & had to fend for himself. Also, on the protective not, he's been exactly what I wanted, he makes himself heard (almost constantly).

His spotting and coloration definitely looks like he has some Catahoula in him. Pure bred Catahoulas have a very stocky frame and he looks more slender, much like my girl is.

As far as food aggression, I would suspect it's because he had to fend for himself for a while. Emma is not food aggressive in the least. Now for being protective? That's a definite trait of the breed. They are herding dogs, originally bred to herd cattle and livestock and protect them from predators.

Don't be surprised if your pup tries to herd you! *laughs* Emma has been known to herd small children and to keep them out of trouble.

He is a gorgeous pup though. I hope you two have a long and happy life!
